Working on a makerel Swimbait. The last few years Everytime I dropped a live makerel it got bit. Just thought​ I'd show some progression pics. Still looking at ideas to make it swim if any one has any I could try it. Also hoping to get out kayaking this year. Been a couple years l, since ive been, due to my son being small and loving fishing.

You can make a series of vertical slits in the soft plastic to make them kick. Are pouring your own?

I'm loving the huge eyes on the leadhead. that alone will probably entice some extra strikes.

Yes I'm pouring them. I'll be putting the image on the head and painting the body to match. I may try a paddle tail but I have a few other ideas first. Sardine with a wedless head is next​. Thanks guys. Andy

Yes to this, go for slots, maybe even a  v cut.  Mackerel have a tight kick, I think a slotted bait, close to the tail, would swim more naturally.

Original looks like a3 or 4 Oz head? That should be good for casting and maybe some deep "jigging" on marks.  Something in the 1/2-2oz range would probably be great for slow trolling the surface or casting to crashing wolf packs
