I was feeling nostalgic today about some of the cars I've owned.
When I was in college (late 60s, early 70s) I rebuilt a couple of Austin Healey 100-4's.  One had a very rare 100S engine that I sold to a collector.  As time went on, being young  and male, I wanted more power so started looking for a project car.  I bought an Austin Healey 100-6 that didn't have an engine and decided that was the car for my project.  About the same time I came across a 327cid Corvette engine to power the Healey.  It was a fairly easy conversion: weld on some new motor mounts, have custom exhaust headers with side pipes made up, a little change to the foot well to allow the wider engine to fit.
I decided a stock engine wouldn't do so I put in new Jahns pistons to get a compression of 11:1, put in a Racer Brown roller cam and added 2 4Bbl AFB's for carburation.  The biggest street tires of the day were G70, 15's so I put those on. A Corvette T6 4 speed and a stock 4.12:1 rear end
When I started the thing up for the first time I was afraid to drive it.  :smt044 . My cousin pushed it out of the of the garage while I sat in the drivers seat with the engine running.  Cautiously and very slowly  let out the clutch and the car fish tailed down the street leaving smoke and 50 feet of rubber.  After a couple more trials I was able to manage it but it was too much a beast for me so I replaced the cam with a milder one and reduced the carbs down to one.  Could still get wheelies in first and second gear though  :smt044
What about your hot rods?

Still got mine 86 F350 crew cab dually ,460 rebuilt with only  2500 miles on the rebuild currently, gearvenders overdrive on the output shaft, can get them to 4 tires spinning if I roll back and stand on it, spins like crazy on the wet pavement (if the house ain't on it). I love taking tuner cars at the light, I just load up with the left foot on the break and dump on green... you gotta be careful going into second without headrest you can actually get whiplash DAMHIK, they always get me on the long run as I'm built to pull but I leave them sitting at the light.... God o love that deep rumble of a big block. I bought it for $1000 way back in 9? (Early 90's) needing a carburetor ($450 at the time) and yes when I'm standing on the throttle you can watch the gas gauge go down. My kids say it passes everything but a gas station. I do love my truck although living on the coast it's turning Oregon orange (aka Rudy)

Oldfart, you and I have a lot in common! I started with a '64 Rambler American 440H. Girls' dads hated Ramblers, cause the front seats folded to the back seats to make a bed, even with the bucket seats I had... After I crashed that, I bought a '61 Morris Mini 850, but it had an 1100cc out of an MG sedan in it. Having spun the main bearings in it a couple times, I got a 1275cc out of an Austin America, but got smarter: I had it blueprinted and balanced, installed racing pistons, dual SU carbs and tuned exhaust headers and a low back flow muffler. It looked exactly like a stock Morris 850, except for the huge exhaust pipe. It ran like a scared jackrabbit and would make a u-turn at 60 mph in its own lane. Auto cross killer. Followed that with a '69 AH Sprite, a '56 Buick Special, Honda CRX, etc. up to a '2003 MINI. Now driving a '2006 Toyota Corolla XRS and a '97 Chevy Suburban K2500 4x4. A few other duds were in between...
Warning! Retiree; Knows it all and has plenty of time to tell you about it.

58 Chevy Apache. I want another one if anyone knows one for sale ;)
Then bought a 72, 442 Convertible. Bought it for $1,500. Interior was destroyed, top too. My best friends dad was an upholstery guy. He redid the interior and top, and I started getting tickets. Lots of them. Sold it one day state trooper caught us drag racing, been a truck guy pretty much ever since. I would get in trouble with a hot rod. I know me. Not saying I wouldn't...I have pretty good insurance:)

Burned a lot of oil, valve cover gaskets never sealed well.

I grew up in a foreign auto shop. My Grandpa owned it. We built VW's. Alcohol fueled 1/4 mile cars. Baja 500 cars. Even a drag boat. But my first full restoration, body off, ground up, was a 1969 bug my Grandpa bought new in late 68. My dad drove it to college, now it was mine. Full strip, and a 2 liter motor, big heads, insane cam, and dual carbs. A solid clutch and I should have put a wheelie bar on the back, it would have saved the exhaust. Anyway, that car was quick, not fast, no top end, but I would be in 3rd gear through an intersection. It ran 12 second 1/4 miles which was pretty good for a daily driver. I have built many many VW's but that one made me appreciate fast cars, but also appreciate stock motors for longevity.
I only fish on days that end with Y

I miss my Datsun 510, and Nissan 240sx. Those were quick cheap to service and tons of fun to drive... Currently looking for a 5.0 notchback coupe.  Want to do a floating 9 with nascar type drivetrain, SLA and 363W with ITB ...

No pics = never happened. C'mon you old farts...break um out !

I don't have pics of the hot rod  Healey with the Chevy engine.  Somehow they got "lost" during the divorce  :smt044  Here is a pic of me in the first Healey 100-4 I restored.  Somehow the pic got flipped, it was a left hand drive, not right:

Never had a hot rod but I did have one of these , had the 1050 turbo ,raced a Sab from sac to Stockton he catch up every time I let off. out ran and lost 3 Highway patrol at Mack rd in 85. If I had some one on the back I could get the front end off the ground at 90. Got rid of it after 6 speeding tickets just had no self control. :smt009
My first car was a 66 Barracuda I thought it was a hot rod, https://goo.gl/images/55KVs8
There now I'm not a thread Jack

Those things scare me even though I've never been on one.  My son had a Suzuki GSXR and got into all kinds of trouble with it.  He gave it up when a car pulled in front of him on the freeway at 2:00 am while he was doing over 90.  He woke up a couple of hours later on the side of the road all banged up.  Very lucky
