Went to Snells Beach NZ for some kingfish action. Went with Blair Jones from oceandiversity. Launched at sunrise from the beach using a tractor and headed out for an hour boat ride.

I hopped in as soon as we set anchor and did a drop and saw a ton of bait around. Did another drop and instantly saw two big kings, took my time to slowly aim and fired. Whoops. Forgot the safety was turned on during the boat ride. Clicked it off as careful as I could and popped him before anyone else was even in yet. Weighed out at 45 pounds.

I take him back to the boat and hop back in and 2 dive buddies have one on. Ones yelling a Mako is stealing it so I swim over and start fending it off his fish while he pulls it in. After a prod it headed over to the next yellowtail so I started chasing him and trying to keep him away from the fish and my dive buddies. Stayed in guarding him away while they got back on the boat.

Headed to some new spots and saw a few crayfish and snapper. Had a friendly wrasse letting me pet him and feed him some kina. Made a last stop at a scallop bed. Really cool scallops, unlike like our rock ones they clap and swim around.

The next day we went to a new spot and had even more action. I shot 3 in total. Unfortunately the best shot (visually) didn't record on my camera. Came right in and turned to give me a big broadside shot. The sharks were thick at this spot. Took an undersized kingfish my buddy shot and hacked it up for chum. On my third one of the day no less than 15 bronzies started circling me as I wrestled the YT getting pulled along. I got towed pretty far from the boat but eventually made it back in one piece(fish too).

On our way back in the weather turned to absolute shit. I was supposed to go out with James young for some diving but the ocean was milky and it was dumping rain so we just hung out for a while and bs'd about the next trip. Spent the next 3 days inside with no more diving or skydiving. Outside of the diving not much excitement besides some kiwi choking in a restaurant and eating delicious meat pies haha.

Had a great time with two fish over 20kg and two around 17-18.
