If you have any lures with the copper colored split rings I suggest you change them with steel ones. Last weekend I was trolling a Risto Rap(Rapala) and hooked  a good fish he ran for the bottom and then I felt nothing, when I reeled in the rear hook was missing and the split ring was mangled. Never had this happen with the silver colored ones, I fish Rapala lures a lot and have no idea why they would use such soft rings. I was using an ultra light 8' rod with 6lb mono so I figure the most pressure I put on it was 4lbs.

Mike....but you DID SAVE the lure itself.....which is a good thing cause it's a one-of-a-kind  :smt002

...But then again, that fish you lost could have been a fish of a lifetime  :smt001 Like maybe an 11 pound SMB  :smt007

Bewary of the thin wire hooks also. I have straighten more than a few of them out trolling for river salmon. WiggleWart lures get a new steel split ring and an upgraded hook.

On broken back rebels which we use for striper trolling a lot can also snap in half so be sure to check that also.

The bills also have a tendency to break off or get weak.  Best to reinforce all screws with superglue.
