Bigger rod holders?

Recently picked up a Phenix 809 abyss rod, and with the cap on the end, it doesn't fit in my railblaza holders. Just wondering if anyone knew of something that would hold a thicker butt?

I thought about removing the end cap, but haven't looked into that too far yet, and I'm hesitant to tear into a $200 rod.

I have an Attwood Rod holder I got at Walmart. I have the same problem, my rod is too big.

Are you sure you REALLY want to ask THIS group THAT question? I don't think you truly thought that one through. 

I've been debating making this post since Saturday for that exact reason. Surprisingly, I've gotten useful responses, even in the winter! [emoji23]

Thanks guys, some options to look at, and that RAM 2007 may have given me an idea to modify a couple of existing rod holders.

Check out the Scotty Oraca and the Folbe Advantage, both of which are clamshell style rod holders which open and release straight up.

+1 on this.  If I have an opportunity for a do over, I would pick one of these.  Especially helpful for hard running bigger fish.

These are very nice, I have them and like them a lot.  However, the Stealth won't fit most of my saltwater rods, which usually have bigger end.  For example, The Stealth will fit a Shimano Waxwing, but not Terez nor Tallus.  I probably should be more specific about which models, but you get the idea.

I use the Stealth for fresh water, the Power Lock for my saltwater.

Gotcha...., I have very few rods and my salmon and bottom fishing meat crane fit tight but they fit. All my fresh water rods fit.

I have an Attwood Rod holder I got at Walmart. I have the same problem, my rod is too big. 

I should add that the Attwood has what looks to be a Scotty mount but they are not interchangeable. I am hoping to convert it somehow or get a similar holder with a true Scotty mount so I can change rod holders without switching the base.

Pull the cap off and cover with heat shrink.
