Hi All,
I have been wanting to take a trip up north for quite awhile. 5-6 days.  Thinking of heading out May 4th from San Jose.
Avenue of the Giants, sand dunes and caverns in Oregon?
I decided to bring my Kayak and fish 1 day at Shelter Cove, since I hear so many good things.  I saw a few inns on the water in Shelter Cove.  Preference?  Any other places of interest I should include? Lakes to try?  101 and 1 on the way up.  5 on the way back.

Paging loletaeric and yakhopper.

Yes us Jefferson guys would love to have you up here and show you a good time.  The weather can be a little rowdy in the beginning of may, but it can be awesome too.

Hire loletaeric as a guide in shelter cove, stay with yakhopper eric at the tides in shelter cove.

In coos bay you'll want to rent dune buggies there's a couple guys that I can put you in touch with.  THen on the way back Oregon Caves near Cave Junction is cool.  Spend some time in Ashland or Jacksonville.  If you want to kayak fish there are some bass lakes that will be late to post spawn but should still fish pretty good, applegate, selmac, etc.

Assuming it ever stops raining.  It's pretty wet up this way.

Awesome!
Yes I was planning on getting in touch with loletaeric as soon as I confirm.  Summer is a busy time for me.  If I want to get away this will be it.  Looking forward to this.  I will check the lakes.  My 50th Bday present to myself.
Thanks for the info.

Sounds like a great road trip, many great places along the way. If you are planning to book a room at the Tides Inn during may, be sure to book early as May can be a busy month.
We would love to have you. Remember to mention that you are a NCKA for the brother deal.
Verna (my wife) runs the inn, so feel free to call her at (707)986-7900 with any questions.

Selmac has twice held the Oregon state record LMB.  Wouldn't steer you wrong.  It;s also oregon wine country if you or the wife are into that.

Looking forward to hearing from you!  The word is that rockfish and lingcod will open on May 1st, and hopefully salmon will still be open after the April opener and the forthcoming rules for 2017 that are due in mid April.  Abalone will be open May 1st as well...

If you make it far enough North I'll try to get you into the Tillamook Bay or one of the rivers up here, crabbing is open all year unless toxin closure

Nice!, That is good fishing.  I may stay and extra day.  It will either be May 5th or 19th.  Any preference?

Hahahaha...  I put on a tournament on May 20th, and it's the center of a multi-day event for most who attend.

If you come on the 5th I'd love to do a one on one all day trip with you.  If you come on the 19th you can join in on a four guest half day trip, and you'd want to sign up for the tournie too.  I haven't opened signups for the four guest half day trip yet, but two spots on Friday are already taken.

Check out the GS11 thread in the tournaments section for more info.

If you have the flexibility you can consider seeing how the forecast is for the first week in May and scrapping it if it's not good.

I'll be there regardless of the forecast for the 17th through the 22nd.
