Newbie here.  What is the best recommended way to mount your fish finder transducer i.e. Scupper or ram over the side. Not sure what way to go. I have 2013 hobie outback
Thanks

Without knowing any more information, I'd mount in the scupper if I could. I have a Thresher that's similar to scupper mounting, and a tarpon that has a RAM over the side. With the big totalscan transducer, at least, the ram flexes and makes the bottom reading funky. Plus the ram is another thing to raise, lower and pick up debris.

That said, the RAM is actually pretty easy to deal with, but I'll be looking for another option myself. If your outback is a Lowrance ready boat, I'd go that route!

Good question I have been considering getting a finder soon and have been looking up what other people have done I don't think I want to lose the temperature accuracy by doing a hull mount so I think I will design my own mount to mount up front so paddle strokes don't mess with readings that will be the easy part the hard part is what finder to get ...

By folding some galvanized flashing you can make a flush spot to mount just take extra care if working below the waterline and will most likely void warranty

I don't think I'd use flashing for anything on a kayak. You could instead use an aluminum bar or "starboard" plastic.
I don't like stuff that sucks.

My Jackson Big Tuna and my Native Mariner are both in the scupper, tuna is in thinwall pvc with trimmed bolts as the hole is oblong not round it is not afixed to the yak just crammed in there. The mariner is a big round hole so it has a plastic sink drain modified. FWIW guys I fish with that are shooting through the hill are only reading 1 to 1.5 degrees warmer when launching since the water chills the plastic as your out there usually within 0.5 after a few hours on the water.
