Decided to give try at mcnears beach pier in San Rafael. I've been hearing the all the buzz going around with jump sturgeons and bass being caught.

And with magic touch and my luck I was able to land my first sturgeon for the year! During the time I was there 3-4 sturgeon was landed on ghost shrimp. I opened up my sturgeon and it was LOADED with grass shrimp.

with this rain storm it sure washed up the bay with tons of tree branches floating around.

I did spot kayakers out there using a anchor to stay in place. Give it a shot by China camp! I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

Good luck & tight lines,

haha funny that you pointed that out.

it measured exactly 40.25",
i was scared to tag it and put it in my car due to my past.

One time, i was fishing out in santa cruz, fish and game came over to us and measured out my lingcod that was barely legal.
It measured out of the water at 22-1/4" on the fish and game fish tape that was given to me.
after I had laying around the boat in the sun, it had shrunk almost half an inch!!
I got cited for keeping a undersized lingcod that measured at 21-3/4".
I was so pissed and wanted to prove them wrong.
I found some evidence regarding a research paper done by some researchers regarding shrinkage in lingcod.
I won my case and I saved myself a misdemeanor and a fine.
Gave myself a pat on the back and let them know "I AM THE LAW", jk.

I still have the research paper laying around somewhere, pm me if you want to look at it.

Same thing happened to a friend of mine. Caught a Ling cod in morning and it was legal. We fished the rest of the day. Around noon we  headed back in. As we unloaded our kayaks we noticed a game warden approaching us.  He asked if we had caught any fish. I said no and my partner said that he did. The game warden asked to see it. When we caught the Ling cod it measured exactly 22 inches. The game warden asked if he could barrow my hog trough to measure it. I started to laugh which probably made him mad. The fish was half an inch short. Thought my partner was going to pass out. He had to go to court and was fined a nice little chunk of change.  It went onto his driver license. Learned my lesson, don't need it that bad.

Yeah it sucks but it happens!

I asked fish and game after he told me its short and I argued that possibility the fish shrunk in size.

He tells me that fish don't shrink, which got me furious.

I told him, "You're telling me, If I put this anchovy on the floor in the sun, that it wont shrink?"

FG: "No" then says "if its that close, just toss it back, don't risk a ticket" which I totally understand from his perspective but from a fisherman standpoint, we bust our time and money to catch the fish we're trying to target.

If we caught them to size then we should be able to keep it.

I used this research paper http://www.fgc.ca.gov/regulations/2016/27_20regs.pdf to get myself from getting a misdemeanor and a fine.

Dude that would be awesome to post as an attachment  pdf or whatever......If it worked for you in court!  Still plays to be safe not sorry.  Lucky we can learn from your experience and toss them back if they're that close.  always another ling cod in my future!
