"Crews began their search around 4:30 p.m. and found the kayak and the life jacket but not the person inside."

PFD's don't do any good if they don't fit properly and are not worn!

I feel for the loved ones when shiza like this happens but I get rather angry at the fact that there are a lot of people that say " I'm a REALLY good swimmer " or " I'm not going to be in the water" to justify why they are NOT WEARING the damn life jacket, really for all those getting into the sport " WHAT IS YOUR LIFE WORTH" should be stamped on all there receipts when there buying all the things for this sport,
HOLLY S}-{ IT buy a freaking life jacket and immersion gear that is COMFORTABLE AND WEAR IT every time not when you think "oh I might fall in".... "YOU ARE GOING TO FALL IN" just a matter of when... I wear my PFD in my buddy's 28 ft Alumaweld in the summer.
Ok sorry for the safety rant .... just sayin

Saw on the news this morning the Coast Guard was searching for a kayaker near the Dumbarton bridge.  Hoping for the best however these usually don't have good endings.  Please people wear your PFD's.  Especially this time of year when the water is cold it can take your breath away and put you in trouble almost immediately! Stay safe friends!

Should we move this post to the Darwin thread?  News snippet says he texted his girlfriend saying his yak was "taking on water."   So.  Time enough to text but didn't put on the pfd, which was found 'in the kayak?'

What are the bets he was wearing blue jeans and a hoodie?  I'm being harsh but I am tired of counting kayakers that don't come back.

Doesn't matter if you are a good swimmer or not. You hit cold water and you can't catch a breath unless you know what you are in for. Also not having a PFD on in cold water is just foolish. My hearts goes out to the family of the missing kayaker, but I thank each and every one of you for teaching me good habits I still follow on my 'yak, no matter what; number one being have that PFD on

So sad!  Now people are risking their lives looking for a dead body and their family and friends have to go through hell.  All because somebody didn't want to wear their PFD.
