Happy New Year!

I am looking to go Striper fishing this year but I have no idea where to start. The Delta is massive and and daunting. This would be my first trip to the Delta. Any recommendations for fishing spots? or launch locations? Also, if anyone is planning a trip this month or next I would love to tag along!  :smt006

Thanks,

David

A real easy spot to start with would be Discovery bay. The whole place is a no wake place it has lots of docks to fish. Drift minnows around the docks. The stripers will be in there most of the year but the fall seem to be the best when the bait fish spawn. You also have catfish, bass and bluegills there too. Franks tract, Big break Sherman lake are also top spots for stripers.

No wonder there's been so many people when I go fishing, your telling everyone my secret spots [emoji28]
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Make sure to post in the hook-up section when you go or PM me. I've been meaning to head out there for stripers this winter.

Discovery bay Yacht Harbor off Marina Road (google map it). Pull into Discovery Bay blvd off of hwy four. right turn onto clubhouse drive, right onto Marina. It's a pay to launch facility if i remember correctly. I've been locked into the marina in the evenings once though, make sure you are off the water and out of the launch area by the time indicated on the gate fence. i think it's 7:00? but not sure... i was lucky and found a number to contact marina patrol, a young man ran over (literally arrived winded) and let me out after a short wait thankfully.   Get your licks in at discovery bay before it warms up, there are a lot of big speed boats that fly through those channels, it can be pretty dangerous, especially when booze is mixed in. I don't fish here once the air temp is over 80 degrees.

Another good place for a beginner to the delta is Sherman lake out of sand mound launch area. it's on the north side of the Antioch bridge off of Sherman Lake road. It's a pay facility that I have used many times and feel secure leaving my car in the lot without being concerned about theft. I like to head west out of the launch area towards the two "chain islands" and fish the channels, flats, and reed lines drifting live jumbo minnows and tossing top water baits. I've picked up some jumbo fish there Nov-Jan

Don't forget (SLR) San Luis Reservoir. Easy to get to from S.J. Lots of big fish down @ 100'.
I only want to be the man my dog thinks I am.
