What can I say, the radio was going off and there were fish to be had all around us.
Maybe it was the shitty bait (pun intended) that we jigged up from the shit pipes or too many boats in the area catching all the fish, but it wasn't in the cards for us today.
Got there around 7am and met up w/ Steve (Chef) and Chuck, who was kind enough to share some smelt w/ us. Met up w/Jeff w. who got out earlier.
Our plan, paddle over to Candlestick and drift back w/ the incoming. We stayed w/ that plan for about 10 mins til we heard the chatter. There were a ton of boats this morning and alot of fish being swung at and netted.
We bee lined to the green 1 mile bouy and began to drift - all the way sot sfo for nada. Must coverd like 10 miles. Still the wind layed down for us till about 1pm.
btw - chef got pullef over for bs by dfg.

If ur heading out tomorrow, get urself some chovies or smelt. Or troll herring, that's what's been working.

Thanks for the report. Sorry I could not join you guys - I did not get up early enough to beat the traffic in HMB. Hwy 92 traffic was a mess  :smt013

hey it wasn't a total skunk! you forgot to mention my 4ft leopard shark! They are like bat rays: its a great catch until you find out its a bat ray! my real catch was returning to the car to find my cell phone working! How's that?! I dropped it in muddy, salty oyster point water and it was submerged in a foot of water for at least 15 seconds. i took it apart and let it bake on the dash and miraculously it worked.  i might give it a shot again on friday.

Damn.... I got checked again by the DFG... for the 2nd time this year :smt013 .  The first time at Moss, now at Oyster Point.  Warning... don't paddle around me if you don't want to get checked.  The DFG pulled up next to Chef and I on the Harbor Patrol's orange Zodiac.  He asked me for my license and even wanted to see my stamps.  Since he was some distance away, he just asked me what color stamps I had on the back of my license.  I told him "blue & yellow"  (blue for the Bay/Delta stamp, yellow for a lake 2nd rod stamp).

Next... the man asked Chef for his license.  However, Chef accidentally left his at home, but luckily had the pink duplicate copy/receipt in his wallet.  Chef merely got by with a warning this time.

Anyways... I had blast out there with the JeffW, Elric, and Chef... despite me not catching anything.  However, I did get to try my homemade sabiki rod at the "shit pipe" and caught about half-a-dozen big shiners.

Yesterday, turned out to be one of the longest paddles for me in a while.  It seemed like we paddled over 12 miles.  We paddled about a 1-1/2 miles straight out from Oyster Pt to join the fleet of party boats, then drifted south so far, that it looked like we were directly across from the SFO Airport.  I knew the long paddle back against the wind and tide was going to be tough, so I just switched my VHF radio to a cool FM station, cranked up the volume, and jammed to music as paddled home.

Can the DFG still give you a ticket even if you have the duplicate copy and not the original?   :smt017

Yup - it does have a stamp on it - funny how I never really noticed that. I guess that the only use for that duplicate copy is when you lose the original and need it to be replaced.

I had a hell of paddle too. i started getting that 'out there' feeling after i felt a  few puffs of wind. i thought i'd paddle in closer and do another drift. when i was a several hundred yards away from you guys i could feel the current and the wind was coming up more so i just kept paddling.....about and hour and a half and i never stopped. what a PTA! i think im going to go again tomorrow but im going to get bait as fast as possible and then go out with the tide so i can ride it back in. that was too much work!

Yep... I think we just got carried away sitting there with the fleet, watching them hook into some nice stripers and halibut as we kept drifting.  I should have stuck to my original plan of paddling north to Candlestick during the slack tide and drifting back for incoming.  Oh well... I'm looking at the bright side.  I got a helluva workout :smt004

Of course... I rarely paddle without my line in the water.  I thought our chances of catching a striper or butt on the troll was just about as good as drifting since boaters in the area were scoring both ways.
