Mendo info

I'm heading up to Hopland on Friday to prescout for turkeys and possibly take a run up to Mendo. I've never fished it before. Anyone got some insight they want to share about how and where to fish it? Sounds like a lot of folks troll with minnows. Anyone do alright with casting plugs?

When you goto mendo, always bring an extra rod with a ZOOM, or my FAVORITE a ZARA SPOOK (blue and sliver).  You never know when your gonna see a boil. 

The minnows are a sure bet, the store on the way to the south boat ramp (aka SBR) opens at 8 (ISH).

I also have a hair raiser aka HAWG raiser (white) with white buck hair.  I let it drop to the bottom and usually get bit.  Others do GOOD on Cast masters? I have not been so lucky with them.

Follow the schools of shad is a good bet.

Take what the local bankies say with a grain of salt.

Been callin the beards all week around the house. Looks like a banner year!! They're everywhere lately.

         Try a Buzz Bomb 4" Perch. I have caught everything on them Lings, Blues...etc. I would
try Albion to Navarro. Elk has some huge Lings

I had decent luck on a Rapala XRap. In fact I hooked up a nice smallmouth on the very first cast next to the shore.

I think that most people actually drift with minnows instead of doing a true troll... at least everyone I've fished Mendo with.  Sean posted a great how-to article... he's the master... the lake's right in his backyard, you know.

Thanks for the info boyz. I'm thinking I might not hit the lake after all. After packing what I need for the turkey hunting, I'm a little full. Think I'm going to float tube the ponds at the property for LMB instead. Hopefully I'll put the info to good use soon tho...
