I have been saving up BPS gift cards to get a decent one.  I have hand crank I have thought of motorizing, and the ever messy Kitchen Aid attachment meat grinder. A more useless device I cannot think of.   Search Craigslist, from time to time they have a industrial one, e-bay has them as well.  Stay with the better known names such as Hobart, as many meat grinder was made by them.  Early Kitchen Aids were built by Hobart.  The gears are a lot better made then newer fine teeth models, that are known for wearing out prematurely.  These older Hobart/KA's can actually handle some of the smaller Hobart attachment meat grinders.  I hope to be picking up a LEM model 8 soon. Either that or a Weber Smoker. Both are close in price.

I started many years ago with a Kitchen Aid grinder attachment, and jammed a lot of meat through it before it cracked.  If you only intend to grind small quantities of meat, you could get by with a kitchen aid, but they are quite slow, and aren't sturdy enough for larger quantities of meat.  I moved up to a Camp Chief grinder, which is an inexpensive medium-sized grinder, and also jammed a lot of meat through it before the gears wore out.  It wasn't particularly fast, but it got the job done and lasted for a number of years.  I now have a Cabelas "Carnivore" grinder, which is well constructed and sucks meat in one end and shoots it out the other like a fire hose.  I can hardly load meat into it fast enough.

If you get several game animals a year and process a lot of burger and/or sausage meat, I think it's worth investing money in a decent grinder.  You can get by with a small and inexpensive grinder, but you'll be happy with a big beefy grinder.

Why not convert one with an electric motor. It's been done. Can easily come across an old 1/3 -1/2 hp motor for fairly cheap.

Take it to Corralitos meats.   they'll grind it and make it into sausage too.    Or talk to those guys at that Carneceria in Castroville...
