My wife has offered to buy me a fish finder for Xmas.  I have a 2016 Hobie Outback w/o the mirage drive. My problem is don't know shit about fish finders and am also looking for one that is an easy install. My kayak has the Lowrance transducer thingy-majiggy set up already. I've looked into the HOOK 4 and like what I've read up on them so far. Do I stick with Lowrance because my kayak has the set up for it or are any fish finders compatible?

The hook 5 is on my christas list.  I have the elite 4 currently.

Your first order of business is to get a mirage drive tho.

That's a typing error. It was supposed to be "w/ A mirage drive. I'm on my Kindle Fire and it "corrects" words if they don't recognize them.

I just transfered my old Lowrance 67c (won in 2010 Yakhopper event) to my new 2016 Outback and both times I have been out its been perfect.  Mounted mine just in front of the rudder lever. Just used a spacer under its original mounting bracket, and trimmed its base so that it would face in the proper direction.  Do love the ease of mounting the transducer underneath.  Had to reach inside to unscrew the cable mounting nut, from there I ran the cable to the left side.  Will upgrade when this one dies, but so far so good.

I have a Hook 7 on my Hobie AI (same mount as yours) and it was easy peasy.
Thresher in avatar and Soupfin Shark in signature both caught and pic taken by me.

pHi AG1984 NCKA Bruddah,
I just installed a Lowrance Hook 5 that I can use on both of my Hobie Kayaks, one is a 2014 Oasis Tandem and I just bought a 2016 Revo 13 in November. I used to have a Elite 5 DSI until some of the power pins broke off a couple of months ago and although it was past the warranty period, the Lowrance tech guy told me that is was still in the Service Period and offered me an upgrade to a brand new Lowrance Hook 5 for $175 pus tax. I didn't argue with that and I got great service. They sent me new Hook 5 with a HDI transducer with very little hassle.
Just took out the new REVO to Shadow Cliffs this past Friday and I really like how bright the screen looked and the picture quality was really clear. You can split screen with DSI and Chirp to mark the fish arches.
Had I not gotten the Hook 5 for a real deal, I was ready to pull for a Raymarine 7 Dragonfly Pro w/ Navionics from Hodges Marine from intel with Fishing Addict (Mel) and P-Sherman who really like the 7" FF. I was surprised that it was not as expensive as I thought it would be.
I don't know what your budget is, but getting a Chirp FF is worth it.
Aloha,
Da Bruddah

I've got a Revo 16, and I have the Mirage Drive, hehehe, AND I bought the Lowrance Hook-4 Combo with Navionics and transducer from GetFeetWet.com because of the factory transducer mount.  Yes, I know P-Sherman is a fan of his wide-screen Raymarine ginormous FF, which he also uses on his PB, but I prefer the smaller form factor of the Hook-4 on the very confined Revo.  For me, less is more.  I mainly use mine for the navigation and for scoping out the underwater terrain, although it is nice to see those bait balls too.

I love my Dragonfly 4Pro, but I would have gone with the 7 if I had the money.

So I installed a HOOK 5 this last week. I've tried posting a photo but my post doesn't go through. My laptop broke so I'm using a Kindle. I also tried posting from my phone but it didn't go through either.

Either way I can't wait to go out tmw morning to play with it. It's my first fish finder of any kind so I hope the learning curve isn't too steep. HUGE shout out to Headwaters for their YouTube tutorial. I would've had a much harder time on my hands without it .

It's not rocket surgery; you should be able to find some good explanations of how to read them on youtube.

I'm really upset that I didn't think of that first.
