Anyone every have any luck crabbing at Bean Hollow? Nice sandy bottom. I caught a dungeoness on a snare one time but that was my only attempt. Any thoughts would be welcome! Any other good crabbing spots other than HMB on the San Mateo coast in less than 50' of water?

I went to HMB two weekends back and good success right outside the entrance (South East) to the harbor with Rock Crab but no dungeoness....

thanks!

You'll be able to use your leg as crab bait after a GWS bites it off

All kidding aside, I have no idea in answer to your question.

But Bean Hollow is known for being one of the sharkyiest places on the coast, (with attacks on members), especially in the fall and right on thru the winter due to it's proximity to the Ano Nuevo seal colony.

Considering there are other places to go, I think the point that's being made is "it's not worth the risk" just for crab.

I grew up in pescadero and I've been diving that area since the late 70's. The white population had definetly increased. You probably won't die but you are taking a risk this time of year. If you caught one with a snare why go in the water?

Regardless of where you crab, if you are catching rock crabs, then you need to move. Dungeness try to stay away from rock crabs.

Pretty good chance that you will never find out if it works.  You might only find out if it doesn't work.
