Old Minn Kota info needed

I just brought home a Minn Kota 65 and a 35 transom mount trolling motor. I'm interested in adapting the 35C for use on my kayak. I'm trying to figure out if is rated for salt water. I googled for info about the serial number and I guess it is old enough to not even fit the pre 2009 serial number pattern. I'm hoping someone knows something about these older models thanks.

I've read a couple people say as long as you rinse good it will be ok. I was able to get the "manual" today. It doesn't mention anything about fresh or salt water use. Since I got it for free I'm going to use it. If and when if fails I can get a fairly inexpensive one for salt water use then.

You could try coating all exposed metal parts in some sort of spray can dura-liner material and silicone the rest.

The old ones are for freshwater.  The idea of using one in saltwater is relatively new.  The basic differences include: Powdercoating instead of painted parts, stainless shaft, coated electrical components & a zinc anode

Make sure you apply sealant around any place water can get into the contacts

I also found a card that was attached to it. It mentions epoxy finish resists salt spray. I guess it wouldn't need to resist salt spray if it was only meant for freshwater. On the other hand, salt spray? What about saltwater?

Salt spay= mounted to a boat that is taken to saltwater but troll motor not deployed

  As mentioned already, rinse the thing good when you get of the water.  Submerge the motor in fresh water and run it a while to completely flush any salt out.  Spray everything with WD40 after wards, should be good.

Thanks for the help. If it fails I can always switch to the 65 I got with it.

I haven't done much yet, I'm still working on my rod holder setup. I found this cool setup. It's made for a Hobie, but I think I could make it with the pod in my Thresher in place of the Mirage drive plug.
