After some shopping around I finally decided on a rod for my revo beast reel.  I got a Lamiglas X11 7'9 rod.  Good thing I didn't go any longer since this just barely fits in the bed of my truck diagonally.  For the price point of $95, I couldn't find anything that really beat it for what I wanted.  I was also looking at Lamiglas certified pro rods as well as the G Loomis E6X which were both really nice, but at $250 I didn't see the benefit that would warrant the extra cost.  I'm happy with my choice.  Time to take her out.  :smt003

That's a nice setup.

Thanks.  I took it out today, and got annoyed that the drag kept slipping...  no matter how tight I made the drag I could still pull line out with 2 fingers just barely grabbing the line...  I said screw it and used my other rod all day.   When I got home, I figured out what the problem was....  I'm running braid on it and it was slipping on the spool lol.  So I spent about 30 minutes stripping all of the line off, putting on a good 15ft of mono backing and then respooled.  The drag works now.... what do ya know.  Haha.

On the beast reel I run the braid thru the holes on the spool when spooling up with braid. No probs with slippage. I also put as much tension as I can when spoiling the braid.

There's no holes in my spool.  There are partial drilled holes but none go all the way through for attaching line.  Thought about taking my drill to it but I didn't know if there was anything running through the middle lol.

The revo SX has the holes. Forgot the beast has the divets. Just lay tape down on the spool for the braid to grab.

Great method! Reel Guru Alan Tani displays it here:

Interesting idea.  Looks like it would work as well.  The mono backing did the job just fine though lol.
