How did everyone else do.  The waves were to big so we went crabbing near the golden gate bridge.  Lots of people crabbing but no one was catching anything.  How did the rest of people near the bay area do?  Was it just bad conditions or did the crabs find out it was open season?

I was crabbing off the south jetty at Half Moon Bay and got the same results. The water was just too rough. A few people managed to land one or two keepers, but that was about it. I caught one dungeness that was 1/16" short (released)... lol...

I was situated near the entrance of the harbor where boats enter and exit. A bunch of people decided it was a great idea to place their pots near that entrance. You can pretty much guess what happened next. A couple boats managed to get their engines/props wrapped up with crab pot ropes. They stopped their engines, sitting there drifting, trying to take off that rope while traffic continued to go in and out of that entrance. It was just absolutely chaotic from my perspective.

I don't know if anyone here was out on their kayaks, but I was just afraid of a potential accident to happen with the way things were out there... rough conditions, boats jetting out of the entrance/exit at near full throttle, pots at the entrance with small bouys... heavily congested harbor. Just nuts, man.

Talked to some guys at the Bolinas lagoon channel, they weren't catching anything.

Crabbing at Linda Mar was terrible. Out of 15 kayakers, the best result was 4 dungies. I, like most others, went home with none.

I wanted to head out to deeper water where the crabs might not be dug in and hiding from the huge swell, but I'd lost my radio/GPS during the launch (http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=75665), so I wasn't confident I'd be able to find my traps a mile from shore, in high swell, with a thick fog drifting in and out.

Thanks for sharing.  I guess conditions were bad.  I just heard that one of our church members died fishing from shore today.  Waiting to hear more details.
