The Mighty Bolts are 1/4-20 thread.

You could make one out of any wide-headed 1/4-20 bolt if you file down two sides of the head.

They are pretty cheap, though...

If I am being lazy and not file/sand/cut the round head, do you think it will work?  I am thinking the pressure is still the name of the game (and I can do lots of heads for additional safety measure).

By the way, I am looking at stainless steel 306 at least for longevity.  Is the mighty bolt not a stainless steel?

The rectangular shape of the head is what keeps the bolt from spinning when you thread something into it. What I meant was you could buy a bolt with a head that won't even fit unless you file two sides. That way it wouldn't spin.

Not sure what the Mighty Bolts are made of, but I assume it's stainless since mine haven't rusted at all.

What is your rigging idea that requires "lots" of Mighty Bolts?

For suggestions about how to make your own "mighty bolts," and your own bases which mount on gear tracks, see my posting at http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=13167.msg144750#msg144750 .

i looked into those too, but aren't the female turn knobs like $5 each?

I did some research the other day and came up with this, although they're not stainless:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FPB9R7U/

I generally use brass toilet bolts but have always had a problem with their length and getting the right female attachment knob on top.

Thanks, Pete!  'been following all of your DIYs, very cool stuff!  'love all of your postings.    I saw your post, but I am hoping for a no cut/sand/file option.  Looks like I have to go either stock or I might have to do that.

BMB, Mike & Jim, thanks for the ideas, I might have to look at the toilet screw brass idea.  I would think a garage bolt would be too big, but I will check it out anyway.
