john, ripon is a sick skatepark, almost too sick for the likes of us "older guys"  one of the reasons I really got into kayaking was the concussions, sprained wrist, sore body, etc. etc.

that ptown park has one of the nicest bowls i've seen in a while, I'd say that park is right up there with ripon.  thats sayin alot.  jtf..

I didn't know there were other skaters on the site too! I'm a total old guy skater as well, broken from many years of abuse skating. We got a pretty decent park down the street from my new home in Wa though http://www.northwestskater.com/bellevuecrossroads.html Come by for some Salmon and skatin' some day if you're n the neighborhood.

I started kayak fising to be a break from the body damage from the surfing!

skating is just plain stupid for the over 40 crowd,
but it's great low impact exercise...  until you fall that is,  .
But if you skated a lot way back when (for me it was the 70's...)
it is surprising how you don't forget what you learned when young.

that's why I know that I will never be the fisherman that you guys are
that learned as kids. no way to get that experience...

kind of wish those new skateparks hadn't been built, but now that they have,
I do chance it from time to time, but never skate like I did when I was
a kid. I just just drop in, carve and grind a little then leave before I get
too tired and fall!

Z, I have corresponded with Dan, the guy behind that website, but never
had the chance to meet him in person. He is pretty skate obsessed for
a geezer! those pacnorwest parks are crazy. GNAR!

JTF, very entertaining report!! I've been playing in the surf a bit lately myself. Preping for the upcoming season. I plan on doing a lot more surf entries and exits. As long as your well prepared, it can be fun in the surf. I've used my gortex waders in the past, and with a tight belt, poly pro under, and gortex jacket on top and a PFD, it's a great system that can be layered for comfort. Even when you take a swim, it keeps you pretty comfortable. The other system I'm thinking of is a light weight farmer john, with a gortex jacket over top. Keep some warmer stuff in a dry bag under the hatch and your good to go!!

Another old school skater on board. We should have a gezzer session sometime soon. It has been about 4 years since I skated last but I am sure I can still slam like I used to.

There are lots of crazy parks getting built in San Jose these days. I used to have a pretty decent Sunday morning gezzer skate at Vans in Milpitas before it closed and I jacked up my ankle for the 1000th time.

Well you are older than me thats for sure  But I can match your ditch skating shot and raise you a vert ramp shot.

Ditch shot was probably around 1987 and I think that is an Epic Gash board. Short lived company with crazy concave boards. Tracker trucks and Santa Cruz wheels of some sort.

Ramp shot is from 1989, Bod Boyle deck, Gullwing trucks, Bullet 66 wheels.

But you got some style there boy! you should dust off the deck and
sample some of the roundwall they have poured in the last 5 years.
real nice. I got a few spare setups and some kneepads if you want
to test the old reflexes,  . don't blame me if you blow out
your shoulder trying to relive the glory tho,  .
