No eat just skate!  I could eat whatever I wanted back then, sadly my body rebelled around 25 

I had no idea there where so many parks around. That is insane. I am going to have to talk to my knees and hips to see if they are still willing. How deep is the bowl at Sunnyvale. The one thing I hated about Ripon is the trannys where way too mellow.

alien, didn't you know? I invented the attitude beanie thing, but the scarf part never quite caught on,  .

yeah bill, they are all over now.  What got me started again was the clam bowl at van's milpitas, but it is
gone already, the free parks put it out of business. now that was a bowl! 
I was like you, had toddlers and no time to do anything but I could get an hour to skate here and there!

I like the round wall enclosed bowls the best myself. I don't like dodging teenagers wearing their ipods doing ollies.
I like a place you get the bowl to yourself when you are in it. drop in, carve, grind, kickturn, repeat
until tired, pop out. have sip of water. repeat. take advil or alleve when home with ice pack and
bud light, 

sunnyvale is not real big, 9 feet at the deepest, but the concrete and tranny is smooth. the
'big' bowl is often empty, or at least you can get a run in it even when it's crowded.
If you want a place to get started again, that is the spot I think.
The little bowl on a weekday morning before work is pretty darn fun too.
the tranny is much faster than the mellow ripon tranny. personally, I don't mind the
mellow tranny, gives the old reflexes time to react! plus if you can get speed on the
mellow tranny, you can get speed anywhere.    But the sunnyvale tranny is
perfect for the size they have there, you can really rip around that park.

I skated sunnyvale with steve cabellero one day. well, I was there the same day he was,
but strangely a reporter chick from the sunnyvale paper took a photo of me and ran it,
I guess because I wore a helmet and was a good example for the kids (for once!) while
cab was going modern street style, no pads, no nothing. dude can skate still! talk about
smooth, his front side 5-0 is pure money,  . I pointed
him out to her, and she was like, "whats a bones brigade?",  .

Also, for business reasons I got to know Tony Mag pretty well recently. that guy can still
skate too! big air while over 40! But when I met him, I had skated only the 70's, I was
like Tony Who? Shackle me not!

down your way there are two parks.
I have skated plata arroyo in san jose. the big bowl is nice, but tight and there is nowhere
to warm up, no roll-in, you have to start by dropping in.
injury waiting to happen for an old guy. the other one looks like it has a small
simple bowl, I wouldn't mind trying it if I didn't have sunnyvale.

Basically I am just looking for some bowl flow and minor grindage possibilities. it's exercise as
much as anything. I need my shoulders for paddling!

I hear that pacifica is one of the best in the area.  and scott's valley. those are probably the two
best closest to us with sunnyvale up there for fun factor and ease of use.

redwood city is good but not so easy to skate, menlo park is good but lumpy (so I hear). greer in palo alto
is funky and old and slippery.

That bowl at vans was a death trap to me. I rode the 6' ramp and the pool all the time there though. I have a need to go fast or I lose my balance.

I rode with Cab at Van's a few times. That guy is the smoothest guy I have every seen skate. He would take 10 minute runs on the mini ramp and do every trick in the book, unreal. I met Tony M. once, almost got on the flow team with them at one point, until they figured out I could only really skate mini ramp 

I will see if I can dig out my pads and helmet then drop you a line to hit Sunnyvale sometime.

Van's put themselves out of business with the sh*tiest management I've ever seen.  Whoever thought it'd be a good idea to put a grumpy soccer mom in charge of that place was off their rocker.  

Plata Arroyo is 5 mins from my house.....if I wasn't afraid I'd break a bone I'd peddle my bike down there to check it out.  I'm getting soft in my old age.

Art, yeah she was crazy!! She liked the old guys though  The rules thing always freaked me out a bit though, I was used to rules but not used to having to actually follow them. The had insane photo rules as well, you could not take pictures in there without corporate approval, lame...

Yeah, the rules.....we had to duct tape our pegs before entering so we wouldn't damage the indestructable skatelite ramps.  Tape lasted one slide accross the coping before it rubbed off.  Flat out stupidity.  That broad accused me (out of a group of over ten people in the area) of putting a hole in one of the walls.  I showed her my tire tread pattern and the one on the wall, then cussed her out and split.  I knew it wouldn't be long before it shut down.

i'll raise both those with a dogtown spyder vintage deck, oj's and indies at carson valley skatepark last summer.  i cant seem to find anything from when I was younger, i just have the memories

I still rock vintage decks whenever I can, I don't need no stinkin nose shaped like a tail.  I'm riding a fishtail shape nowadays though.   I cant believe you geezers have those old pics.  jtf..

I skate Sunnyvale pretty often as well (probably already skated w/ ya J ). It's got a lot of variety from street stuff, super-mini, mini w/ bowl, good bowls w/ vertwall and a deep bowl. I'm really gonna miss that park! But basically a fun place to ride overall.

Sorry I couldn't skate with you guys but if you're headed to Seattle anytime don't forget you board
