I vote for removing the boney bastards because I can't catch them in a tournament when I need to and they are hard to clean.

Hmm, I never thought they were hard to filet - not compared to Perch.

I like the idea of removing WSB.

Carp
Carp are a blast!!

Yes they are.

Carp are a sport fish that are difficult to catch, they fight hard, and the make good table fare (despite the reputation otherwise.) Carp can be found in almost every mid to low California watershed, so everyone has a chance to target them.
Some of my best memories of childhood include night fishing for carp with my dad, sitting on 5gal buckets watching the rod tips for movement by the dock lights and laughing at stupid jokes all night :)

The European target Carps as a favorite table fare.  They are excellent fighters and good eating if you know how to prepare them.

My wife is Chinese and she is always dismayed when I talk about carp as trash fish. We've had carp a fair number of times, and I'm still not convinced that I've got it pegged wrong...

All this talk of adding a freshwater species is kinda muddying the poll.  Would peoples' votes be different if we hypothetically didn't remove greenling, and instead added both a freshwater AND a saltwater species to maintain the balance?

Great idea. Add flatfish and some freshwater species to balance.

+1

As for another freshwater fish, don't ask me---I barely know what freshwater looks like...

Or, cut through the bullshit and give each species of legal gamefish a point value....

Locking down this vote - greenling stay in, as it is clear that the competitors prefer them to stay in, in a landslide.  Other species additions are still being discussed.  It appears that the mouth closed rule will be changed as well, so greenling with their funny mouth will now be approved as long as an effort is made to close it.

I am all for the flatfish, it's a whole new species group that's fun to target in my opinion and has lots of potential. Targeting Greenling does not take much skill as far as I'm concerned, flatfish are much more of a specific species to target and take a bit more patience, technique, and finesse. Plus they are much better table fare than Greenling.

Which species did you and your brother have a difficult time catching to secure your win at TRW? :smt013

Well played sir, well played.  I felt like karma was coming back to bite me after I suggested they weren't worthy of AOTY  :smt044.  But for the record, Matt did catch several greenling that day, just no legal-sized ones.
