AOTY 2017 Rule Change Proposal #2 - Greenling removal & replacement

I'm okay with pike minnow, I've caught them almost 20lbs.

Please no addition of pike minnow. Just because you can catch them doesn't mean you would want to eat them or be photographed with them as a "great catch of a lifetime". Not sure if you guys are serious about adding them or just joking around but I'm definitely not interested in photographing them when I incidentally catch them.

Well that's too bad. I can emphasize with the problems that greenling cause the judges.
 And they're really not worth keeping when replacing them with verm's would be so easy.

We had flounder. You separated smallies and spots. That was lame. All because someone whined a bit. So now is someone Whining about greenling? Eliminate WSB and add flatfish. The RGC should stay in place.

well that's why the vote is there, to allow people to voice their opinion  .  As Chris said, it doesn't look like people are interested in removing greenling.  Removing WSB is an option as there really haven't been any entered in years, but it is a premier fish, and if someone catches a huge one its a pretty good value. 

I agree WSB is a big point fish. I've put one up before but the reality is that for two years they were around in numbers that truly did justify having them on the list. That particular fish was found mostly from Santa Cruz to Monterey whereas the other flat fish are pretty much up and down the coast and are not as migratory as WSB I think. That could open up more possibilities for anglers.

Carp are a sport fish that are difficult to catch, they fight hard, and the make good table fare (despite the reputation otherwise.) Carp can be found in almost every mid to low California watershed, so everyone has a chance to target them.

I vote for removing the boney bastards because I can't catch them in a tournament when I need to and they are hard to clean.

Some of my best memories of childhood include night fishing for carp with my dad, sitting on 5gal buckets watching the rod tips for movement by the dock lights and laughing at stupid jokes all night
