Heading to Shaver Lake for a few days in about 2 weeks.  Hope to try out my modified Predator PDL/Minn Kota "Pismo Gismo" and chase some trout.  Haven't done any fresh water fishing for many years so not familiar with the rigs, bait, hot spots, Shaver Lake, etc.

Would greatly appreciate any advice, especially from someone familiar with Shaver Lake area. Would like to concentrate primarily on trolling unless I'd be better off trying something else? Will be camping at Edison.  Would be great if anyone else is heading there at the same time.

Check out the most recent fishing report in the Fresno Bee online. It's updated weekly. All the typical trout trolling techniques work there. Try deeper for Kokanee. Good spots to try are across the dam, around Boy Scout island, and Black Rock cove. Not many bad areas to troll there.

There are a ton of smallmouth in the lake as well. Any small jigs, spinners, or crickets will catch all you want on rock piles. There are a couple sporting goods stores in town as you pass through. They are very helpful with recent hot techniques.

Best shaver fishing advice: drive 30 more minutes to Huntington. You are already putting the effort to go all the way up there, just go on up to the top of the mountain. The trout and koekonee should be excellent this time of year. Some of my best memories as a kid are when my dad would take me up there in October to fish for the big (~5-10 pound) Bruders. Honestly, one of the best methods is a night crawler on a clear bobber that you can fill will water. Fish around submerged rocks near points that lead to coves with river inlets. The fish are moving shallow this time of year because of their spawning instinct. It is not uncommon to catch fish this time of year with hook jaws. Have fun - those lakes are a blast this time of year. Post a report!

Been busy fishing Have no checked the forums, you are in my waters well waters that I fish a lot. I use nothing but crankbait and minnow type lures for both trouts and Kokanee but watch out for the small mouth bass they bite a lot too by the edges or rocky points. Best area is troll from the dam and across and zig zag around, troll slow. Lots of the big trouts are at the mouth of the river but they are deep! Worms works good there. Good luck
I think I know what I’m doing?
