I did my part to remove some squaw fish from the river systems of nor- Cal. Hopefully more steelhead and salmon fry can live due to my part!

They don't really fight, they aren't edible at far as I know, infested with worms, and they eat everything native to the rivers. There is actually a squaw fish derby at Lake Pillsbury around father's day every year, that my buddies have won 3 years in a row.

That's a lot of striper bait!

that would be a good use for them as they're useless predators of salmon and steelhead smolts same as striped bass introduced to the West Coast from the East Coast. sounds like a win-win scenario :smt001

It's a little misleading to say they eat everything native in the rivers given the fact that they ARE native themselves.

There sure isn't a shortage, though, so rock on!

Lake Pillsbury used to be a decent trout lake. Until somehow those damn things pretty much dominated the lake. Glad they are still having that derby to put a dent on those.

They are definitely not native to the eel or Russian River

You think they would work if they were frozen. If so I think I might be able to get some!

The squawfish, now being called pikeminnow, has a native range from the Sacramento, San Joaquin, Pajaro, Salinas, Russian, Eel, and Pit river systems.

If that was from the Lower Columbia or Snake Rivers in Oregon, you'd be on your way to lots of money.

Top 20 anglers pulled in more than $20k each, and the top guy the last two years has pulled in more than $100k.

I'd suggest burying them in your garden, but when I did that with some other fish, critters dug them up.
