FYI-
I've been fishing this area religiously for over 5 years now, and have done all the launches on numerous occasions. They are constantly changeing, and one can never expect the conditions to be the same from trip to trip. So far, this weekend looks great. I'd go but I'm gonna be working out on the bay studying bathymetry.
I'd avoid Pacific Valley, unless your willing to bust your back getting your stuff back up to the road after a long hard day of fishing. I've fished out of that launch many times now. The way down is easy, but comign back up is definitely a slug. And, the launch varies with tides. It can be near effortless going out, but that can change and get dangerous really quick if the tides aren't right. Same with Willow Creek. I'd say your best bests this weekend are either Mill Creek or Limekiln. Always paddle north, and catch the Northwest wind back down to your launch spot.
Good luck
Brendan
p.s. promethean, you ever launched out of Pac valley?
Livin tha pirates life full time! Catchin big cbass in tha kelp all summer long Have fun, live well, conserve the resource, and ask me about my secret fishing spots. but I probably won't tell you, cuz their secret!

dont change your plans on my account, its wont be my first time in the surf, yet it will be the first time yakking through the surf.   I heard limekiln was a real easy paddle out, but like I said, I'll go where ever.  Gotta go look at the tides for that area.

All systems GO!

I wasn't to worried about you, JTF, more so than Red, whose ass I did have to pull out of the drink (shit he'll kill me if he reads this).

Chef, JTF and I are carpooling our asses down there. leaving around 2pm getting there around 6pm.

Anyone else going?

I haven't launched there, but I hiked down to check it out.  One of the coves was glass calm, and I'd expect it to stay that way all the time since it was pretty sheltered.  Offshore rocks might make the way in/out tricky though.  Nothing compared to launching at pescadero.

I remember the walk down there was kind of long, but not nearly as bad as a launch from greyhound rock...  Maybe something like 300 yards at a 10 to 15% downgrade.  At least it's sort of flat enough that you can stop to rest whenever you want.

The commercial guys operating out of mill creek seemed to always head north in their skiffs, so I'd think the best fishing is south of mill creek.  From the aerial photos, pacific valley has an awesome kelp bed and reef system, and the charts show a fast drop-off after the reef.  Looks like the holy grail of rockfish habitat IMO.

With the huge kelpy reef, I'd really like to spearfish there more than anything.  Maybe nab a WSB.

I'd have gone down there this weekend, but our new house is available to start moving in on saturday afternoon, so I can't really take enough time to justify the long trip.  Pacifica is a nice short daytrip for me.  Hopefully the first thing I do in my new back yard is clean a ling or halibut.

Congrats on the new house, Promethe.

I will kill myself if I see another set of pictures like the last trip, w/o me in them.  Is Limekiln the final decision?  Launch time?

Still mulling various choices, but I'm leaning torwards Big Sur...

I'm waiting for a weather and surf update from Chef.  He went to Limekiln to hunt for jade today.  If all looks good still, JDyak, Joel, and I plan to meet around 3am to carpool.  We're open to launch from Limekiln, Mill Creek, Willow Creek, or even Pacific Valley depending on Chef's or Eric's recommendation.  Meeting/launch time will likely be 7-7:30 unless we decide on Limekiln which opens at 8am.

Dave, PM me your phone number if you want me to call you with our final plans.  We'll try to post it here as soon as we know something.

Hey Chuck, any chance you guys can pick up one more on the way down.  I've been wanting to make the big sur trip but my car is a p.o.s.  I'll split the gas bill and swear I'll be on the curb waiting.  If not, its cool.  I'm working out a plan B, Anyone know if there's spots to shore fish down there, I may have someone to drive me down and sit on the beach with a rod in hand to kill time.

I was thinking about going but didn't want to drive the damn way solo. My car is a pos too, sagging headliner and all but it would make it no sweat. Give me a call if you want to do the trip.

Here's an info link with directions to Limekiln http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=577

FYI - Limekiln has $6 day use fee.  Chef said there was no wind and flat water conditions till 3pm today.  Sounds good to me!
