I was out looking for bait today, so I drove by the Compass.... it was closed and had a Coldwell Banker sign where the shop sign used to be. I felt sad, I loved that little shop. So next I went to Lopez Liquor across from the warf, and they only had squid, as I already have a lot of squid, I didn't buy any. Then I had an idea, I drove to the end of the commercial pier to the seafood markets. I was prepared for sticker shock but to my surprise, it was fairly priced. I walked out of there with 1 pound of Anchovies for $1.50. They have squid, fresh stuff getting there at 230pm. Today. Mackrel, fish heads, bones and other bait. I have found my new spot!!! Finally. Just drive down and park 8n front of the markets for free, don't pay for parking. I am chasing halibut tomorrow and have a pound of Anchovies and a pound of squid.
I only fish on days that end with Y

Darn it, found my secret bait source.  Ha ha

Even from that area,  99% of the time , squid and anchovies are iqf.  Flash frozen.  They then thaw it out and sell it as fresh.  It's still great stuff.

When I need a lot of bait for chum or whatever, I purchase it by the box.  Usually it's $1.00 pd that way.  But the boxes are in 25 pd containers and frozen.
