Did Eric leave the rubber grommets in after removing the rudder? If he did, then put in a piece of tubing long enough to go between the 2 grommets. That way, your kayak will be rudder ready in the future.

Sooo what happen to the brass inserts?

One way is get four well nuts and SS machine screws. This way you can always put the rudder back on.

Second is a soldering iron and get some scrap OK plastic.

I forgot to mention above throw a SS flat washer just larger than the well nut rubber lip between the well nut and the machine screw.

If all he did is to take the tubes out that the cables went through go to the hardware store and get some rubber plugs that size.  There are insert plugs of all sizes. Or come to my house and I'll weld them for you/ Why did he take the rudder off?

The rudder was taken off. Those holes on the rudder are ok. the ones where the wires go through are my issue. I think I may have found a solution. Thanks for all the ideas.

Here are the options I think will help.

1 Rivets using plastic scrap and some goops.
2 Well nuts.
3 Sugru.

Can you use the plastic hole plugs?

Those are special grommets if I remember correctly. I  remember mine getting torn and I couldn't find a replacement. I ended up contacting Ocean kayak and they sent me some new ones. You may wanna check with them.

Darrius,
I found some plugs that should fit, also I have some extra plastic. We can either insert plugs, or I'll weld it for you. Just need to find a way to hook up.
