Hi all. Wanting to hit up mile reef or somewhere close by tomorrow morning but I've got no buddy. Anyone heading out that wouldn't mind a relative noob tagging along? Thinking about launching from the harbor around 6:30-7am. Let me know!

I'll probably be out there but not 100% sure yet. I assume you've got a vhf radio---channel 69.

Was out there today . Many other kayakers were also out fishing. Inshore supplied only a small amount of small rockfish for the fleet but pickings were scarce.
The party boat limited early on south rock and were going to do a second run  later but that's a long paddle. we ended the day with a keeper greenling and a 16# butt  near the lighthouse in 50 feet.

Thanks for the info, and sounds like a good result. How was the wind (I'm actually hoping for some, to use the AI)? And was there much smoke in the air?

Overcast till 1.30, Wind did not blow till 2.00, Large surge that was almost breaking at the harbor mouth, but all in all a beautiful day on the ocean.
Last weekend there were shoals of blues around the mile buoy that we caught on trout spinners (lots of fun) but they had moved on perhaps to south rock. I have not looked at the forecast for today or tomorrow but you might glean some info by cross referencing then tossing a coin...
GOOD LUCK...

Sorry, but couldn't make it today---wife reminded me of an appointment early in the afternoon. Hoping to go out tomorrow, so a report would be great.

I ended up having a variety of things to do in the morning too so didn't make it out. Might try for tomorrow but not until around 9am.

I just wanted to share that a small salmon was caught while surf fishing near walton lighthouse in Seabright Beach.
I figured it's too small to keep.  I wasn't expecting a salmon... so I didn't even look up whether season is open or what regulation size is.
Fun day in any case.  :)

How small? I've caught a couple small small ones on a sabiki this year. I think I've got a picture, if anyone wants to see.

As soon as I was reeling in, I saw the fish jump out of the water (top of the wave... which was pretty cool).

At that very moment, I recalled that I left my fishing license in my jacket that I left in the car.

While I was excited to catch a fish, I was more concerned about possible citation. So as soon as I landed the fish, I released it without a chance to take a photo.  I was busy trying to get back to the car to get my license.

It was approximately 14 inches though... but that could just be coming from a fisherman's eye.

And yes, I caught it on sabiki with bits of squid.

I'm busy trying to read up on salmon regulations now.~~

Maybe it was a steelhead? The ones that I got were 6 or 8 inches. I'll see if I can find a decent picture when I get home.

Last weekend I got hooked up with a big salmon near the light house of the seabed dragged me around for 45 minutes. Pity they are out of season right now. it might of weighed 20 pounds. not a fish tale.
