Looking for a small lite reel for live bait catching. See the bait ball on the graph and use the line counter to drop right down to the correct depth.

I use an Okuma low profile Coldwater reel. Had it for three years now and no issues. Makes targeting suspended fish fast and easy.

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

If your trying to catch bait I don't think you need a line counter, fish in a big group will grab at anything that gets close to them
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I use an Okuma Magda MA20 that I bought used from eBay for $20. It's not saltwater rated but I rinse it well after every trip and grease about once or twice a year. So far it has held up in the last 3 years.
Having a line counter is nice to have but not necessary.

Ive been fishing with out the counter and I do catch bait, but when you see a ball under you at 60 its nice to know you have dropped to the approx. depth.

Was out at Natural Bridges this past weekend. Motored around searching for schools on the FF. Dropped bait down to mark on FF and instantly got double hookups. Nice to have a line counter. Mostly blacks, blues and Olives at 60 fow.

Plus you should be able to see your line on your graph.

I bought the smallest Okuma Magda Pro Line counter (MA-15DX) from Amazon for $46. Definitely a low-end reel but  it has worked out well so far

+1 on both Okuma Magda Pro and Coldwater.  Unless you plan on going real deep, you dont have to buy the bigger reels and save yourself some weight.  The Shimano Tekotas are really good as well, but I find it that the Magda Pro and Coldwater are more economical and more than sufficient for a 20lbs salmon (boat trolling).  I use 20/25 lbs 100% fluoro on them, so you can get a little more yardage compared to mono.
