For ocean use or lakes? Are ALL of the places you like to launch accessible by trailer and/or wheels?

If your always fishing with a buddy then it's fine, otherwise you have to depend on fair terrain.also it's freaking slow so if your out in the ocean or big lake and the swell and waves come up and you have to get out in a hurry your not gonna be able to.ive had a 14 and 12 so I know the cons of owning these very well.i now have a revo.only thing I miss is the deck space otherwise I'm glad I got rid of them
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I feel like it's too big - could be a liability in the ocean.

Good luck, bro.  :smt001

My opinion may be skewed...But I think the PA14 is AWESOME! Hahahaha

In all seriousness...The only real con I have noticed is the weight. It isn't practical to load on top of the car. That being said, I load it on top of my pop-up camper every time I go camping and it's doable (the pop-up roof is lower than a car when in travel mode). If your going to launch on a beach, you'll need fat beach wheels. Other than that, I have no complaints. If you know going into it that your going to have a heavy kayak, then you'll be fine.

I think Hobie lists the weight as 125#'s, and I bet that's minus the mirage drive and seat.  It certainly doesn't include gear or a loaded live well.  Time to hit the gym ;-)

I love mine!

Mostly lakes however want to get into the salt.  Mirage drive has been great for me for 5+ years.

I'm a big guy, like the stability and the size.  Seat is comfortable for me as a normally have a bad back.

I have no problem launching or finding a way to launch.  I have a low two lace trailer which helps..

Good luck!

Why would the mirage drive be a con?

Where I fish in the Monterey Bay, there are a lot of Hobies, but it's rare to see a PA---even where a harbor launch is available. If you're worried about stability, I'd say the Outback would likely be a much better choice, and if you want to go faster, then a Revo is the way to go.
I don't like stuff that sucks.

Pro: Space, stable, standing, comfort, weight capacity, many accessories and pimping options, motor options
Con: Cost, weight, speed, hard to car top, limited on launch spots, no one wants to carry it

Love my PA 14. the biggest down size is the speed. Can't make much more then 3 knots. I stay aware of the currents and wind when I'm in the ocean.  I could see getting into real trouble real fast. Plan accordingly, consider other places to land if your entry point isn't an option due to shifting conditions.
