I am wanting to insure my kayak, and I know renters/homeowners insurance will usually cover this, but I have some questions.

1. Is your kayak insured through insurance you already have, or are you insuring it through a separate company? If so, what are reputable companies?

2. If it is under your renters/homeowner insurance, did you specifically state your kayak as a valuable with a specific replacement value? Or was it just included in the overall total amount you are covered for?

Thank you! I just want to protect my investment if it is stolen or damaged somehow. I live in an apartment, so keeping in on top of my car (with a lock) most of the time might be what I need to do.

Call insurance rep. Pretty sure if it's on the car, Not covered by homeowners ins. Best to call insurance rep....
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

It is usually covered under your homeowners policy, subject to the deductible. Or you can get a supplemental policy that covers it, with no deductible. I went the supplemental route because of my kayaks and camera gear.

I am not sure that just because it is on your car means it's covered. I thought my insurance once told me things bolted to car are covered such as a rack, toolbox, stereo, amp ect but things tied or strapped down were not such as cargo. This may vary by company but I would at least not assume that just cause it's on your car it is covered by car insurance.

Stolen off your car may be covered by renters or homeowners maybe if it happens at the premesis that is insured

Homeowners should cover it no matter where you are.

There's a set limit for what insurance will cover on things like your kayak or bikes/whatever, if you want a specific item fully covered you have to name it in the policy.

I have full coverage on my PA-14, my trailer and all my gear.  I have a $100.00 deducible, and I pay 365.00 per year.  A dollar a day seems pretty cheap for about $8500.00 of insured goods.  I went through my AAA agent.

What are you wanting to insure it for? Theft? Damage? Sinking?
Have a son. That way if someone steals it, send him to get it and beat their asses. If it gets damaged, beat his ass. If it sinks, send him down to bring it up! Keeps them out of trouble, and they are fun to make.

Haha. Mainly theft. I'd like to be able to leave it (locked of course) on top of my car overnight if I had to.

No kids yet haha, I am only 27 and just got married 1.5yrs ago.

What are you waiting for son? You get in there, and you mount that woman! Kayak later. You got babies to make! Not only are they insurable, but TAX DEDUCTIBLE! Plus, the other above named references....
