Just to add to Bill's distance calculation.. the internet has the elevation of the community of Elk at 135 ft.  According to Bill the trail is 0.4 miles or 2112 ft so the hill grade for the trail is 135/2112*100 = 6.3%.  If I remember correctly the hill is pretty much that steep the whole way.

I think I remember hearing rumors that local teenagers in Elk often make some quick money working as ab diver gear sherpas.   I might be wrong about that, but maybe we should figure out a way to let local teens know that a bunch of lazy middle aged kayak fishermen from the bay area are coming up August 3rd and 4th.   At $10 a kayak I'm sure there will be plenty of us willing to pay and they each could easily do 3-4 kayaks an hour and make some serious money.

Chef... It will be awesome to see you again at this event!

It'll be such a sharp contrast to your situation last year at this tournament that I don't even know how to put it into words.  A complete transformation from the humble and unassuming "Chefstefano" into the superhuman "Jade Pirate".    Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhh!

More of that INCREDIBLE Ceviche would be icing on the cake.

Isn't that almost like mother-shipping?!   :smt001

Bill,

Is that a public campground? If I can't make the tournament it still would be nice to be able to camp nearby in the future.

I would love to fish up there. In fact our annual family vacation to FT. Bragg is usually around those dates, we were kicking the idea around of being up there right about then. Elk isn't too bad from Ft. Bragg if we are already up there I'll have to keep this in mind.
Originally I got into fishing to fish.

I agree I think that should be a rule if you don't lug your own gear you can't weigh in.

Chef it will be great to see you.

freediverca - that is not a public camp site, that is the Greenwood community center that we rent out for this event. I think the closet public site is in Ft. Bragg but Sean knows more about the area than I do.

The nearest pubic campground is the Albion River CG...which is a GREAT yak fishing destination
