My knee got tired, then pain afterward.
This happens after anything more than 5 miles pedalling.

Does it happen to anyone here?
How do you manage it?

sounds like joint pain, which can be managed with medication or by talking to your doc.

if it is just general soreness, might be just that you need to build up some knee and muscle strength in that area.  but for some people hobie pedaling is really harsh on their knees. I would have soreness after pedaling a long day in a hobie, which can be a little better if you do longer, smoother strokes rather than short fast ones. try to find a comfortable cadence instead of pushing your knees too hard.

my knees are significantly better with the native drive, as it is a circular motion instead of stair stepper. that will probably be true with all of the newer pedal drives as well, but no one has anything comparable to a hobie adventure island if that's what you need for your fishing.

Keep your knees warm. Ever notice on cold days what the bicyclists wear? Either knee warmers or long stretch pants. Makes a big difference to prevent pain after the ride.

Not soreness. I know pushing muscles would create soreness. I got plenty of those on long day.
I could poke the top on my knee and feel the pain.

Since I just got into pedal long distant, may be I don't have enough leg strength yet.
Hard core long distant hobie pedallers  would share their knowledge.

Chet. It does take time to strengthen the muscles used to pedal for long periods of time. Don't over do at first. Like all sports, build gradually. One thing I did was to put clip in bike pedals on the drive arms to allow the leg/foot to pull back as well as push. Sharing the work load between muscle groups really helps for long distance in preventing overload on knees.

If the pain is from the front of your knee, try lengthening your pedal stroke. In bicycling, that pain is usually associated with saddle height being too low.

I remember my knees and other areas getting sore after my first few rides in my hobbie. Eventually it went away the more I went out.

I bet you're getting IT band issues.  Massage the area on side of thigh, all the way from bony hip to the knee.  Its a really tough band of fascia so work it, assertively.  do that before and after a long day yakpedaling and you're "knee" pain will improve, as your fitness catches up with your desire to fish.  otherwise, maybe some internal joint derangement?

anyway, hit it with RICE, NSAIDs, and massage/therapy to feel better.

Can you post what clip it is ?I use spd mountain bike pedals. You do need the old style solid Mirage arms that are threaded for standard bike threads. Hobie quit making them but Fungunnin. a NCKA member, was making them to replace broken hollow drive arms. Search past DIY posts to locate.

Ken you brought a good valid point about pedal adjustment.
I set mine at #3 now.  How do you guys adjust your pedal setting for optimal result ?

This may be a longshot, but...  I started getting knee pain on my left side every time I'd pedal my Hobie more than 4 or 5 miles, which was most days (I usually troll). Never had any knee pain before and it really bothered me. After months and months of that, I finally noticed that at full extension, the left pedal would "bump out" ever-so-slightly (almost imperceptible). So, I filed off a small bit of plastic and now the pedal runs true and straight the whole way. No more knee pain.
I don't like stuff that sucks.

Just adjust to 5 and you're good.
