I've heard some say that if you have or have had any lower back issues, a pedal boat might not work for you, just wanted to put that out there.

I'm a swimmer, biker and runner... Why the hell would you paddle with puny little arms when you can engage HUGE glutes, hams and quads???  Case closed.

Rent, demo or borrow a hobie or three and a native propel and try it out. No better way to decide than to get some saddle time in the boats.

Mainly because a good paddle stroke is not just with arms but uses all torso muscles. A good paddler can make a kayak, particularly a SIK, really move over long distance. Pedal is great for fishing and I have two pedal boats but one element in pedal kayaking is missing and that is glide. Props and fins when not in motion slow the craft down from water drag and one has to put constant effort to maintain speeds. A paddle yak can "coast" down the backside of swells and glide between paddle strokes, sort of like a bike coasting down a hill. Big energy savings and recovery time.

If you're kayak fishing, the pedal kayaks are best because you can cast and move/troll at the same time.

Best is to try them yourself. I know a few people here that will never go back to a paddle kayak for fishing.

Nicely stated. Another thing is I like to fish inside kelp forest structures and I believe that is better/easier done with a paddle yak.

COG sure looks high on that G2. Seems like you'd get tossed around in rough water. Yikes...

Many/most/all of the new pedal kayaks have a higher COG, even the newer Hobie's and their newer seat. It just has to do with the position required to pedal efficiently/effectivley.

I took it out 3 times in MB, SC, and Moss Landing area and didn't feel tippy due to the high COG.  I love the seat on this G2, it's sooooo comfortabe!

I think in this particular case you're guilty of passing judgement on something that you've only seen in pictures.  my kayak has a high seat too, but that doesn't mean i get thrown out of it as soon as i step on it.

Quite true. There is a human geometry for efficient pedaling that has to be  accounted for in setting up the correct angle between feet and pedals. I went through this in the SIK I converted to a Mirage drive pedal system. I first tried for as low a COG as I could by sitting on a thin pad on the kayak floor. It was workable on the ocean but not efficient or comfortable and eventually I foamed the bottom interior up to the drive well making the SIK into a SOT. Better efficiency and comfort but the higher COG called for small outriggers while ocean fishing for safety reasons. Most plastic pedal yaks counter COG by making the craft wider to allow a higher seat.

+1 the new hobie seats are damn high compared to the older seats. it's still stable with a higher seat
