Family vacation to Shelter Cove. From AZ a drive for sure. The drive into the cove is not for the meek, hang on and take your time. We arrived 7/7/16. I hooked up with Eric Stockwell the next morning for a guided trip. I wanted local knowledge and Eric is great. I had a rough first day on the water getting queasy for the first time ever. The Cove is absolutely beautiful and worth the drive. The fishing was slow at first but picked up as my fishing skills came back after years in AZ from WA it took me a while to regain my touch. You guys in CA are very lucky when it comes to fishing. The trip was a success, the family had fun and after many days of rough water I did catch fish. The locals called me crazy as many in the power boats sat and watched me paddle the rough seas all day. A kayak will float in anything, its just a matter of staying in it and being able to paddle back.

Thanks to Eric for his local guide services, he was great. I hope to make it back to Shelter Cove next year. Wish I could be there every week, as the water after I left calmed down and was like a pond.

Right on, Phillip!  I had a great time with you to kick off your trip, and I was so stoked to see you pulling in nice catches for the rest of your time at the Cove.  I hope you'll get in touch if you're coming to Humboldt again - would love to see you out there.  :smt001

Being an honorable sportsman is way more important than what you catch.
