Had a great time. Great to meet new and familiar faces yesterday.  Congrats to austin on the win, and props to whoever made it out despite "no fish in santa cruz"

After about 2 hours of sleep the night before,
Arrived at 530am, with a few already prepping to launch.  Launched at 645, very foggy, and visibility and navigation was aweful.  Thanks to ff gps with previous waypoints. paddled west towards the pier for some bait.  Got a dozen or so lizard fish quickly, and drifted them toward the kelp beds in front of lighthouse. Nothing. Made way to about another 1/2 mile to the west to fish the reefs. Switched to rf gear and got nothing but a few rockfish and the most snags ive ever had, losing most of my rigs, called it a day at about 11, paddled in to see the weigh in results.  Met with austin at the ramp to check out his fish. Beautiful.  Cleaned, up loaded up and headed for the bbq.  It was nice to check out the new pdl kayak from old town, and the upcomming trident design which leaves mych consideration.

Thanks bushy and kayak connection again for making this happen.

Congrats for another great event with beautiful fished caught. Too bad I couldn't make it (had to pick up my family at the airport and I'm waiting from my replacement kayak from Old Town...)

thanks to all those involved. It was a good tourney.

Nice to meet and fish with a few more NCKA members out there.

Fishing was slow but was able to land 4 lings and a few rockfish. I was hoping to get a halibut but couldn't get any bait. The one mackerel I had on, something snatch it and broke the leader :(

I couldn't get the damn lizard fish off the sabiki. They were biting on top, middle, and deep.

Looking forward to the next one :)

congrats to the winner :) beautiful sea bass!

Why didn't you use the lizard fish as bait?

I was told it wasn't good bait to use?

They are extremely slimy. Maybe I should use it next time

I've got some action on a live lizard fish, mostly rocks, but several nice takedowns on frozen macs  (though at least one of those was most likely seal)

While they aren't the first thing I'd reach for in a livewell, they aren't bad, especially if you got no other live bait.  With a 2 hook rig, I'll often times put one on each hook.  You do get more rockfish, as sebast said, but I think that's mostly because they are slurping size.

Those lizard fish were very plentiful near the pier. Im sure they are ok bait for everything.  They stay alive pretty long on the hook if you put them on right.  So thats an advantage over macks and chovies.  I got a few rf off those.

Did see some smelt and baitballs further out, but by the time i busted out my sibiki, they were gone.
