I was really torn about providing this report but we all know the dangers of fishing in the salt, and because PIF is coming up, i didn't really want to say anything, however, I figure it's better to be in the know. It's nothing new, but i had my second "possible" GWS encounter since Adams attack at bean hollow many years ago.

Crazyfisher and I fished on Friday in front of the hotel at MBK near the yellow can.I saw a dorsal fin come out of the water. It was zigging and zagging along the surface of the water. At first, I thought it was a mola mola, cause i get fooled by them, but as it go closer it was for sure a shark. I caught a glimpse of the body and it was about 10 ft or so--Enough to freak me out. No positive identification, cause i ran like a little girl in the opposite direction and radioed Jon, but it was probably the land lord.

I'm a chronic rent skipper so he may have dropped by to give me a friendly warning. I hope next time he's not collecting.  :smt010

there's so many of them in the bay right now and the scientists don't know why.  A local surfer I know was surfing Manresa a few weeks back and saw a striper come up in the water, next thing he knows a big white looking thing was attacking the striper.  Being the mellow surfer dude he is, he just chilled and got the next wave in.  Oh yeh he had some crazy stories of his buddy gettin attacked up near Scotts Creek in the 80's, big ass bite scar from shoulder to lower back.  I guess we shouldn't be worried until they get about 15-18 ft!!!!  Dat shark shield doe....maybe a good idea?

Thanks for posting. I almost went fishing that day too. Fished that area last Sunday with Baitman. Only got undersize butt and starry flounder...although Jim got some nice reds. I guess what I'm saying is...did you catch anything?

I read somewhere that 12 to 15 is the juvenile sweet spot... where they're big enough to start being territorial and more confident in "testing" strange new items.  The smaller ones leave us alone, and the BIGGER ones supposedly recognize us as NOT being a part of their food chain.  The hard part is having them sit still while ya try to measure them.   :smt003

Some one has to come up with a way to replicate Killer Whale sounds. The LL will disappear for a while when they hear those noises. Maybe some type of speaker inside the hull?Just an idea...

thanks for the sighting report.

i was out all day in SC between sailing buoy and wharf drifting for butts last sat.  i knew there were GWS sightings there.  didn't see any fins, but did have shark shield on.  ironically, lots of seals came by to visit me.  towards end of day, i noticed the batteries ran out (not sure when it ran out of juice).

only time i saw a zig-zagging fin was at muir, and we all know that area is sharky.
