I was finally  able to get out on the ocean since I picked up my new to me Thresher 140.  Unfortunately conditions weren't prime (8' @8-10 seconds with wind at 10-20 knots pretty much the whole time).

Launched at Russian Gulch and worked the next cove over to the south.  The waves breaking on the outer reefs and the swell out past the point were not tempting me to paddle west.

I metered around looking for hard bottom, kelp was hard to come by and the little I saw was just that, little.  I started a drift in about 50' of water and drifted towards shore in the south cove.  This was my method for the next three mornings, was really my only option.

I only had 2-3 hours each morning and managed 2 cabezon (14&18") and 2 lingcod(18&24").  All fish were caught on plastics.  Much tackle was donated to the reef....

Also did a bunch of diving out of the kayak, and man it's almost not fair how much easier it is to paddle to your spot then wear yourself out with a lengthy surface swim.   Grabbed some abs and drank some beer.  Can't complain.

Looking forward to getting on the water again soon!

Andrew

Way to get out there when the conditions aren't that optimal.........did you happen to release that 14" cabby?

Of course he did.  And if for some reason there was a brain fart don't mention it here because you will never hear the end of it.

I'm well aware of the CDFW regulations and minimum size requirements for game fish species.  Thanks for checking....
