This is something, I think? I came up with? And it works. I cut the bottom of the dry box siliconed it down and then put a small dab of silicone to hold the transducer down, less chance for air bubbles. Notch the lid so you can run wire out. Your good! Fill it with water Dosent leak, no bubbles ect. It's worked for me. Hope this helps someone.

Thank you! I still haven't had luck mounting mine. Do you think a regular plastic container with lid, may work just as good? And how much silicon did you use? Everytime I tried doing the silicone with my transducer I would always get air bubbles. Going to be sturgeon fishing this weekend and really need to get it up and going  :smt001

I've used a regular plastic container in a serup like that. But, I sill prefer gooping it inside the hull.

Nice setup.  Way to avoid goop or silicone to hold the ducer down is to flip the mounting bracket & mound to the lid of the box you built.  Bam!  Nice work.

Go to Walmart buy 10$ dry box, cut the bottom the best you can to fit where you will mount the box and use silicone to glue the box down. Make sure to seal the box so it doesn't leak. May need two applications, then notch the top to allow the wiring to pass threw!

& The "pass thru" for the cord doesn't need to be super-duper water tight

Thanks guys  for the great ideas, and so do I fill this box with water when I'm done?

is it necessary to cut the bottom out of the box?

not if you can prevent airbubbles.  this is fairly similar to the plastic ziplock bag filled with water that i've used before, which is a temporary solution when i'm in a boat that is not my own.  the reason the plastic bag works is that it conforms to the hull's shape so that there are no air gaps.

I can see the advantage of this over gooping the transducer down (Did that a few times, and I always got bubbles, sooner or later, and it was a pain to redo.) , but how is it better than the foam doughnut method (Mine has been in place for years and years.  I cut the hole in the foam to the shape of the 'ducer, just a little smaller so the 'ducer is held in place.)?

The box vs doughnut are basically identical

I tried the doughnut method and the foam just came off and the water never stayed. But maybe I was doing it wrong. I will try the dry box method :)

I used a slice of a wide foam noodle, then cut the hole to shape, and gooped it down, after wiping spot on the kayak with denatured alcohol.  I assume the goop sticks for so long because the foam flexes with the bottom of the kayak, so it doesn't tend to peel off.  Maybe I got lucky with the kind of foam I used.   I store the kayak in the garage and the temperature never gets blazing ( and I transport it keel down).
