Fun times in the harbor! Somehow I managed to catch about 30 rockfish throughout the day with most being smaller blacks but some good ones in the mix.
You were smashing those schoolies!  Seemed you were hooked up every time I glanced your way.  My fish were slower to come by, but I kept confidence in my technique and it eventually paid off with that greenling and copper RF.  Who knew my last-minute 12 inch copper would be worth a $50 gift certificate?  :smt044

As a first timer to this event I had a blast, as I always do when fishing. Met some new people and hung out with friends,. Even caught some fish too  :smt003. Who knows if I had a partner I might have had a chance in this thing. Team solo man all the way. Definitely lookin forward to next year

Dude, glad I didn't see that seal with no head!   Pucker factor was high enough outside without that image!

Fisheducator and I were first on the water.  We ventured past the head in the dark.  If we could see we probably would have  turned around immediately.   We had 10-12' swells head on but that wasn't thaaatt bad.  It was the 3-4' waves hitting us sideways trying to knock us off our boats that turned us around about 50 yards from blank rock.

Inside the harbor was a pleasure cruise after that mess.  I found a school of tiny blues.  And had a ling come undone before I got it to the boat.  Other than that it was no action at all.

It was still a good time.  The Mayes Bros were the team to beat going into the tourney. So when they said they were struggling with the bite it gave us hope but we just couldn't get it goin.

Lots of great anglers went without qualifying stringers.

Wish I took more pics too, the ones I got were pretty lame.

Congrats again Matt and Chris!

How much would you guys charge to let me shadow you for a day ?,  :smt002, I could not catch a fish to save my life !. Thanks to Pacific outfitters for putting this event together ( twice ), despite the rough conditions and lack of fish we had a good time.
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.
