Thanks for the responses a month or so ago...I'm heading up there this weekend. Wondering if anyone has any recent intel they wouldn't mind sharing? Also, any specific rigs and methods for the variety of salmonids that call Bucks Lake home.

Thanks in advance!

Josh

I prefer k14's and lazer minnows.  I haven't been up there for 3 weeks but plan on making a run on Monday (Memorial Day).

Are you camping up there Josh?  Silver and Blue K14 for trolling.  Best times are at sunrise and sunset.  If you find a school of Kokanee switch to jigging the Lazer minnow.  I like the 3/4 ounce size.  You will catch Kokes and Macks on it.  As well as Rainbows, Brooks and Browns.

A coworker of mine went up there with his canoe a couple weeks ago, targeting trout.  He said it was a pretty tough bite.  Most of his action came on trolled Needlefish, gold with orange dots I believe.  He said there were a LOT of fish jumping and splashing on the surface.

Echoing what Bret said: have a jig rod at the ready in case you come across a kokanee school.  If you don't hook a kokanee on the drop, you could potentially hook mackinaw when the jig drops below the kokes.

Actually staying in one of the cabins. Definately plan to be otw early and late! I am going to be both fly fishing and using the conventional gear. Good to hear your buddy saw fish rising...hopefully will make for some fun times on the long rod and dry flies! Also plan to target the inlets with the fly's. Figure I'd spend the middle of the day trolling for kokes and jigging for Macks. Clayman, your report on that 34.5 incher was awesome and motivating. Thanks to both of you for the tips...and good luck out there Monday NoSoup!

For sure, go get em!  If you're bringing the long rod, bring blood midge patterns.  I think size 16 would be the ticket.  That's what the rising fish were eating when I was last there.

Good to know. Hopefully copper john's in red will suffice! Thinking dry/dropper setup...mayfly (adams) down to a copper john (red)...will keep an eye out for the carpenter ants too!
