Hi my name is Brett but my friends call me Buck.
I am a country boy that lives in central valley, I work in the agriculture industry, and I love to fish!

I grew up going out on deep sea fishing trips and have always loved the sea. Last year a couple buddies introduced me to kayak ocean fishing and i was hooked. Got myself an old wilderness system kayak and I am itching to get out on the water more.

Thanks in advance for any advice you have for a newbie.

Hey Buck,

Solid intro. It's appreciated when new folks add some detail to the introduction so we know what you like to fish for. Some great salt guys on this site and there's also some avid salt guys on the central coast site if you are planning to fish the central coast.

If you want to make a short trip, the San Joaquin River right there is Fresno has some quality fish waiting. Most locals will say the fishing sucks, but kayakers know if you put some time in you can find some nice fish. I think I made it up to 8 different fish so far between Friant dam and 99, and I was never able to catch a carp or catfish which are both plentiful.

Anyway, welcome!

Scott

Welcome to the Madness!  I learned everything I know here on NCKA.  They say the Search function works but if you don't find something you're looking for, don't hesitate to ask.  Post a hook up when you come to the coast.

you are right. that is a good place to fish but the past few years i have been enjoying the kings river. I have become an avid fly fisherman and love to try and catch a monster on the lower kings.

my other addiction is 4wheeling.
last year i thew the kayaks on top of my jeep and my wife and i did some fishing in the high country. it was a blast!

i will be taking my wife in two weeks out on the ocean for the fist time in a couple weeks and i am hoping that she will get to catch a few fish.

I've been tempted to throw my kayaks on top of my wife a few times, but so far I've resisted.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?
