Sac Bee Fishing Line reporting harassment and theft problems at Ice House and Hell Hole.  Be careful out there, probably also applies to Loon, UVR and other lakes in the general area.  This crap pisses me off.  Please post-up if you have more info.

ICE HOUSE RESERVOIR

The lake is at 92-percent capacity and was recently stocked by the DFW. It appears that some young toughs of Russian ancestry are harassing folks trying to launch their boats, and are possibly breaking into cars in the parking lot. If anyone harasses you, call the Sheriff’s Office and let’s get this type of behavior nipped in the bud.

HELL HOLE RESERVOIR

The lake is at 78.5-percent capacity. The road was clear to the lake and the launch ramp was open, but watch out for some unsavory types harassing boaters at the ramp. One troller reported catching 5 macks in the 2- to 5-pound range in deep water in front of the dam. The Hell Hole Campground was open.

I worked up there for SMUD and we had LOTS of troubles with the Russians.  They have a compound up there off Granite Springs Rd. (You pass it on the way up, it's the first right after Peavine Ridge Rd.)  It's designated a religious retreat, so has certain 'protections' and the cops have trouble getting in there to look for stolen property.  SMUD took a helicopter and took photos of our stolen trucks and equipment and still the sheriff would not do anything.  I had trouble with them once at Jaybird Canyon; they were shooting the insulators on the transformers in the switch yard.  I called the sheriff, they didn't want to come.  SMUD sent a security guard from downtown.  He called the sheriff and while on the phone, we came under fire.  We dove under the truck and the dispatcher could hear the gunfire.  We were pinned down.  Sheriff finally came.  There were 4 of the Russians.  The sheriff arrested one on an outstanding warrant and let the rest go, with their guns.  Said he couldn't prove the bullets that hit our equipment came from their guns.  He did ask them to leave though.  Sheriff left and within minutes, the Russians started shooting at us again!!  Called and sheriff came back.  Again, no arrest, just waited this time for them to leave.

These are more than just gang kids, this is an organized mafia-style group up there with guns and they know the sheriff won't do much, if anything about them.  Your BEST call would be to contact the USFS LEO's.  They are federal and it's federal lands.

I NEVER go up there unarmed.  I always carry when I'm in that area.  The more populated the rec area, the more likely you'll find trouble with these asshats.

Also, there's a few homeless who camp in the Ice House boat ramp parking lot during the off season.  Probably gone by now, but they are nice.  They leave you alone, just want to sleep in their car through the night and leave first light in the morning.  I've talked to a few and gave them food and such.  They are not the problem.  The Russian Mafia punks are.

Whoa. Thanks for that info Jerry.  Been hearing more about Russian organized crime rings robbing businesses in the Sac area, including one of our more popular tackle shops. Armed lookouts, go in at night, targeted all the high end reels.

Did you guys work with Eldorado NF LEOs on any of this?

Just looked at Google Earth.  Was not aware that compound was back in there. Thanks again for the info Jerry.

Not good. My understanding is the road to Hell Hole passes through a wildlife no gun area so you can't take any guns. I guess I'll camp with my truck so it isn't left alone for several days. Any info on what the hassle is? Are they trying to keep people out of the area or what?

SMUD helped fund 5 USFS LEO's for the area back then, not sure they still do.

wild.  How long ago was it that you were having these troubles when working for SMUD? Just curious to know how long standing an issue this is.

Been a problem last 6 years I know of. Even at Sugar pine lake, you might get harassed. These folks are on the serious side and if you choose to draw on them..... Be prepared to put them down. They don't fear you and often have armed guy off to the side covering their back... Just like back in russia... Going to get worse when it's not Russians out there in the woods.... (to clarify, Not russians = All of us when one of these Mooks up for Pres wins ! Either one!!!) Head for the hills Peeps!!!! :smt044 Usually you have to be looking at their girl or something to set it off.

They're probably PUTIN worshipers up there. That really make me up set to hear the crap they do and have been doing. My brothers co worker was beaten to death by 4 Russian guys while walking home from work. All he had on him was his wallet and a 12 pack on beer. They poled up, got out of there car, beat him with metal pipes, took the beer and drove on............Go Trump.

This is a thread about  a fishing location with a specific problem, let's leave the xenophbia and politics out of it please.

Probably never have a problem, but that said... We watch for bears and lions out there. Be aware and be ready if folks seem sketchy. Any nationality! Tweekers, worse than Russians!
