Hey all,

Figured I'd ask here cuz I know a lot of you have had experience with GoPros.  Decided to finally take the plunge and get one.  Anyone have experience with both the Hero3 and the Hero4 Session?  I don't want to break the bank on the Silver just yet so those are the 2 that are in my price range.  I've watched enough youtube vids to basically know all the differences but wanted a kayakers point of view on the topic.

Thanks in advance!

Cameron

i have the hero3 black and the session, both are great, the upside for the hero is the ease of changing setting without an app, a little higher resolution and the wifi works better for me that the session. but i had some battery life issues, but got an aftermarket battery off amazon and now it runs all day, compared to a few hours before. with the session you get way better sound, so much so i found i make some interesting noises while fighting large fish, hahahaha, and the one button push is a great feature, but i haven't been able to get it to synch with my remote. the session is a lot lighter so it can be used with more of the body mounts(chest, wrist hat etc) more comfortably than the hero with the case, either way you will enjoy them, just make sure you have lots of storage space on the computer for all the footage you accumulate  :smt007, cameron

Prices of the Hero 3 and Hero 4 will take a farther nosedive once GoPro gets its act together and releases the Hero 5. I still use a Hero 2 as well as a Hero 3 Silver that a friend found on a SoCal beach. I use the Limefuel battery with the Hero 3 for hours of video time. Wish Limefuel would make one for the Hero 2 (probably not enough in use to justify). Hero 2 takes better low light videos than the Hero 3, IMO.

Which battery did you get?  All day battery life would be awesome!

I get 6.5 hours of standby battery life with my GP3 Black with battery backpack & Wasabi batteries.

If I buy another cam it won't be a GP. There are way to many comparable action cams on the market that are decent enough and some that are actually/arguably better than GP at a fraction of the cost.

Check out the Git2.

Hey Hojo - where did you get your Limefuel Hero 3 batteries? I can't find them anywhere using a quick Google or Amazon search.

Jim - what model Wasabi batteries do you have?

Thanks, fellas. I want to take my GoPros with me on the Islander this year.

Dustin, it looks like the battery is no longer available for the Hero 3. The only place I saw it was on EBay for $197 !!!

If Wasabi or other brands don't work for you or you don't get one in time, you can borrow my battery. I'm also taking my Hero 2.

Dustin, I'm running the 1200mah in the actual Gopro3 & the 1400mah in the battery backpack. They are two different sizes & are not interchangeable. I have 2 each of these plus a pair of the actual Gopro brand ones. If you need to borrow these for your trip let me know. jim

Hmmmm......I just checked out the run time specs on the Limefuel battery. 6.5 hours @ 4000mah @ 1080p 30fps. I think that's about what I get with my two batteries @ 2600mah total. So although they apparently don't have one for the GP3 or 4 right now, when they get them in stock that would be a good deal as I had to buy the actual battery backpack plus two individual batteries.
