The one Safeway in Santa Cruz County that I knew always had squid, and did up just up until the RCG opener, doesn't have it now.   It's not that big a deal that I can't get the Seawave 3 lb box, because Bayside and Outdoor World have the 1 lb boxes of another brand.  I'm just wondering if all Safeways have stopped carrying it.

Squid is scarce everywhere up here and the price tripled over the last ten years.

3lb box at my local Asian Market used to be $3.99, then jumped to $5.99, $6.99, $9.99, and is now $11.99!!

I went to Ranch 99 in Dublin looking for squid yesterday and they had none.  It appears that it's going to be hard to find.

Nope. We got super lucky that time. Some other boat gave that to us while we were all asleep the first or second night.

I get mine at Cash n Carry for $10.  It went up last fall from $5.99.  I hope the boats come up here again cuz the fresh free squid off the boat was the best.  We also have 3 paks of big squid too for $5

Last year we had no live squid and I just happened to bring a couple of boxes of frozen, one for me and one for Dustin.  Guess which 2 guys had the most fun hitting the goats in the kelp the one day we were on the other side?

I bet it's simply a matter of supply & demand, Tom.   Not enough squid to go around, so the wholesalers are asking more...

No squid in the east bay Safeways. Berkeley Bowl typically has fresh for $3 a pound but last batch was frozen.

Even Ranch 99 didn't have squid one week that I recently was looking for some.  Hmmm ...
