Heading up to Arcata for my daughters graduation from Humboldt this week. Got a kitchen pass from the Captain, so I will fish either Shelter Cove or Trinidad on the 15th....weather permitting. What's the scoop on salmon in Trinidad? Throw me a bone and tell me they are doing good! Rock fish along with salmon.
Never launched out of Trinidad, but seen many a kayak put in/out there. First kayak trip of the year...3rd year fishing kayak....15 trips in 2014, 16 trips in 2015....plus 2 weeks in Baja. Ready for action!!! Thanks for any information, Ron

Rockfish opens on the 15th.

Salmon opens on the 16th.

Pacific halibut closes on the 15th.

Crab is still closed.

Nobody knows where the salmon are out of Trinidad because nobody is targeting them and I haven't heard of any incidental catch by halibut fishermen.  Normal this time of year is straight out about 5 miles but they could be anywhere.

I will be out at Trinidad  on the RF opener on the 15th ch. 78.

Thanks for that. I did not know salmon was closed until the 16th. I may shift gears and head down to Shelter Cove instead for a chance at both salmon and rockfish. I usually fish from Muir Beach/Bolinas north to Shelter Cove...my favorite launch is Pt Arena. Shelter Cove is about a 6 hour drive from home.
Will check the regulations and see what the scoop is for halibut at Shelter Cove. If really good weather I may dive there also. Thanks again, Ron

Everything will be open at the cove on the 15th. Pacific Halibut is open 1-15 of the month.   CA halibut is year round.
