Ride135 handle repair ideas

I was "lucky" enough to have two of my handles fail on me after a trip to the salt with Innovate and I am just now getting around to fixing it. the problem for me is that if I wanted to increase the surface area of how the anchor points are secured (i.e. heavy duty washer to grab more plastic instead of a smaller bolt and nut right at the screw in point...I have some ideas of how I would go about re-securing the handles like using a really really heavy duty drywall molly screw setup, but this is my biggest thing about that. It would require me to drill out more of the original hole and that might be too much for me to feel comfortable with.
Ideally I would not have to make the holes any bigger than they are already (using existing holes) but I literally have no way to get inside on the back of the kayak to even giver me a chance to hold a bolt to be able to screw into.

Please any ideas or past fixes would really be appreciated. I seem to keep coming back to the same ideas and I would really want to have a fresh brain on this and having a different outside of the box thought process on it.

If I can get this thing figured out then I will probably be out on the American some time this week going for shad and ballooning them around, looking for a whopper.

Hey Rob, Im at work until at least 4:00 today but when I get home I will upload some detailed pictures.
what it kinda boils down to is that the actual point in which it anchors is about the same size as the hole that was drilled to be able to fit the screw/bolt. So in essence it didnt have much "meat" to hold onto and it pulled through that same hole. Like I said though, I will get some good pictures up later this evening.
