Purchased an Atlantis 150 VHF and a Garmin Striker 4 FF GPS unit. I've been reading about necessary equipment for being on the water and felt that these items at their price points and features would be the best for me. Given my budget of course. Hopefully some of you guys and gals will see me out there soon!

Both Units arrived yesterday! The handheld is light weight and looks the part. I think I'll be using a caribener on the loop by the antenna for a connection backup. The belt clip doesn't inspire confidence. User friendly set up though!
I will hopefully get to work on my FF setup on the yak soon. Detailed report to follow. So far impressed with my purchases! :smt023

Right on.  Sounds like you are on the road to a perfect set up.

Congrats on the safety equipment. Practice your self rescue. I injured my shoulder and now carry inflatables that attach to my paddle for added support to re-enter my kayak . And added safety flares that I didn't but should of carried !

Nice work.

I use a short piece of shock cord and a small Nite Ize brand stainless steel "S" Biner as a leash for my radio. This gets clipped to the key clip in the PFD pocket.

These "S" biners are pretty handy, and they last a LOT longer than those cheap keychain carabiners. You'll be lucky if you get two trips out of those before the springs rust out.
