Ever since I got my 2013 Adventure, I've been planning to convert it to a full AI. I almost pulled the trigger last year, but then the new 2015 AI came out and I was hypnotized... Ultimately, I decided I can't afford the new model. Another factor is that I've customized my Adventure to the point where everything is just the way I like it, so it would be hard to part with it and start over.

Anyways, now I'm finally to the point where I can upgrade, but the AI conversion kits are no longer available. So, what to do? One option would be to put together my own conversion kit, as all of the pre-2015 parts seem to be available individually. It's a little pricier than the kit, but not by too much.

However, I'd find it really hard to buy those old parts, when new parts are available, and for essentially the same price. So, here's a (perhaps crazy) idea that I can't get out of my head. How about using the new AI amas/akas on my 2013 Adventure hull? I know that it's not an exact match---there are pictures here comparing the pre-2015 AI (and TI) with 2015 AI:

To make the new amas work on my hull, the rear aka bar would need to come forward by a couple of inches. I think that's doable. And I think there would be real advantages to the larger amas. Btw, these guys describe how they used the TI amas on a pre-2015 AI (the new AI amas are smaller than the TI amas, and so should present less of a challenge):

I'm not sure whether the larger 2015 sail is an option or not. It seems that the mast receiver is probably different on the 2015 AI.

So, the idea would be to use 2015 amas/akas on a 2013 Adventure hull, most likely with the pre-2015 sail. What do you AI'ers think?

I get your idea, but you will pay a lot more for all the bits than what you may be thinking.

I would suggest keeping an eye open for a used pre 2015 AI and snatch it up quick.  Decide if it's worth swapping everything over to your old hull, and either sell or scrap the AI hull you just pulled parts from.
Or
Depending on how many holes you drilled mounting everything you currently have on your Addy, you may be ahead just moving all the gear over to the the AI, fix the holes on the Addy and sell it.  Recoupe some of your bucks back.

Up here in Oreeegon, there has been a rash of awesome AI sales lately.  Used 2013's going for $1500  to $2300, and BRAND NEW 2014's going for $2800.  Just gotta look, and jump on one.

Yes, the thought has definitely crossed my mind. If I went that route, I'd probably just sell my current Adventure, but that would be really hard to do...
